I had to visit this restaurant for 2nd time, since all good places get fully booked in Bruges. Unfortunately the unfriendly mid-aged waitress/owner (I don't know) tried to overcharge me again!! It becomes really frustrating!!! Next time I'd better stay hungry than eating there. Food is ok (nothing exceptional) but the treatment and the way they try to fool you as a tourist is disgusting!

This is our 4th trip to Bruges but our first with our 3 year old son, and this restaurant has been a great addition since our last trip to one of our favourite cities. Very family friendly with a good selection of kids meals and for the adults - a great serve of ribs! Having been fans of the hobbit, known for its ribs, we decided to give the habit a try and weren't disappointed! Very juicy and a good size, even on the second round of the all you can eat. Our son enjoyed the children's spaghetti and then ice cream while I continued onto another serve of ribs and enjoyed some white wine, served in the quirky way of by the centimetre. The service was lovely and very friendly, topping the night off with a surprise of chocolate (for the ladies). Definitely heading back when we next get to Bruges!

Can't fault the people nor the location but the food is probably just above average. The portions however are enormous so if you like lots of grub this is the place to go.

We stumbled on The Habit, a small but unique restaurant while looking for lunch during our day stay in Brugge. On a quiet side street off the main drag and bustle, it was a choice we did not regret In any way. The food and drink were superb, prepared to perfection with excellent service. The quaint and unique decor made for a wonderful atmosphere in a building dating to the 1600's, My son had the ribs, my wife the chicken waterzooi (traditional Belgian stew) and I had the mixed grill. All were outstanding, perfectly accompanied by fine regional Belgian brew. The owner was gracious, warm and friendly as he helped serve and chatted with us. If you visit Brugge, which I highly recommend for its canals, architecture, churches, the Belfry, food and chocolate, have a meal at The Habit. it will be one you will thoroughly enjoy and remember for a very long time.

Which was first, the Habit or the Hobbit?

Those two small restaurants face each other across a narrow cobbled street, looking similar from the outside but apparently not affiliated. We tossed a coin and walked into the Habit.

It's a cosy place - the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and somehow it doesn't seem to matter that diners sit quite close to each other. It's good for a romantic dinner.

Service is relaxed and friendly but still efficient. It was our first time here but we felt treated like regulars, almost like old friends.

Food is excellent, fresh ingredients expertly prepared. Try the Fillet Mignon with pepper sauce. It's a dream.

Some of the starters are very large - get advice from staff to avoid ordering too much.

It's not a cheap place to eat (two-course meal for a couple with beers just over 70.- euros) but it's quality. Recommended.
