We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate the new year and wished we could have stayed longer.
This is not your average B&B, far from it. The hosts were amazing, they served us an fantastic breakfast in our room on 2 of the 3 mornings and even lit our fire. It was such a lovely relaxing stay. Our friends stayed in the other room and they were equally impressed.
This really is a little gem.

We visited Bruges and stayed at Canal Deluxe for two nights over new year. The building is beautiful. We stayed in the Eugene suite which has a large open fire and living room with a spiral staircase leading up to the biggest and most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. There is also a rainforest shower and miniatures of shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer etc
The first morning Tine ((the owner) lit the fire and left an enormous breakfast choice in our lounge. The breakfast consists of pastries, eggs, hams an cheese selection, fresh bread and fruit, blueberry pancakes, muesli and yoghurt with fresh juice. There is a proper coffee machine in the room with free water and a fridge. Th room overlooks the canal and is very peaceful although only a few minutes walk from The main square. It was great waking up looking at the beautiful wooden arched ceiling and the roaring fire. I cannot recommend this place enough, it is a complete bargain for the level of service and standard of the suites. We cannot wait to return in the summer so we can use the beautiful garden.

My wife and I stayed here for three days: we chose predominantly based on the excellent Trip Advisor reviews. They weren't wrong!

The B&B is part of a family home on a street less than 3 minutes walk from Bruges' central square. The two suites the B&B offers are in a separate building at the back of the main house and overlook a minor section of canal. The hallway runs straight down one side of the house and opens into the courtyard that contains that leads to the two rooms. Whilst it was cold and wet whilst we were visiting, there are seats in the courtyard that would be a good place to sit during the warm summer months. The suite we weren't staying in has a canal terrace to use too.

We were in the Eugène suite: a two level arrangement. A door from the courtyard opens straight into a large, high-ceilinged room. As one walks in, there is a tall cupboard that contains hanging space for coats and also a fridge (not a mini-bar). There is an antique bench-sofa and a small armchair with side table arranged around the lovely fireplace. We had a wood fire each night and it was certainly a warming thing to come back to. The walls of the main room are painted a deep red and many of the soft furnishings a dark green. The floor is stone with a rug and windows look out over the canal and back over the courtyard.

Upstairs, there is a lovely large (possibly larger than king-size) bed, a widescreen television, wireless router, a table with bath robes on and windows looking out over the canal and courtyard. The bed is very comfortable and not too soft. The decorative theme continues upstairs with the same intimate red on the walls. Everything was sparkling clean.

The bathroom is compact and has a lovely shower with plenty of hot water. There is a sink, a good quality Philips hair dryer, some nice toiletries, plenty of soft white towels (changed each day).

Scattered around the suite are lots of nice touches: there is a box useful bits and pieces - plasters, scissors, thread etc., a corkscrew, wine glasses, and bottle opener are provided, there is a Nespresso coffee machine with plenty of sachets, there are lots of candles scattered around to get the lighting right, each day a little glass platter with cloche was refilled a few nice pralines and all of the lights are on digital dimmers.

Breakfast was fantastic and changed a little each day, which was nice too. There were fresh croissants and pains-aux-raisins, tasty currant bread, a selection of cheeses and plainer breads, jams, honey, Nutella, freshly-squeezed juice, good butter, yoghurt, beautiful fruit salad, muesli and an extra hot treat: one day we had cooked apple with cinnamon and then boiled eggs; another day we had a baked tomato with some cheese. It was overall some of the best breakfast we have had in any hotel or B&B and was served at flexible times, either in the suite or in the house's large kitchen with the hostess Tine working and chatting whilst we ate.

Tine was helpful throughout and we particularly appreciated a number of tips about where to find vegetarian food, good chocolates, good beer and some of the other usual tourist bits when we arrived - all over a coffee. Another very handy thing was storing our bags - and leaving us with a key - on our last day so that we could wander around unencumbered a little longer before heading for the station (walkable in about 20-25 minutes or about 5 minutes by taxi).

I cannot really think of any particular negatives here: I did hit my head hard a couple of times on the staircase and low doorway into the suite, but this comes with the territory; also, the bathroom door doesn't close fully - although not really a problem with a couple staying; finally, it was quite easy to hear those next door although our neighbours were not particularly noisy nor particularly early risers, so again it was no problem.

In short: highly recommended for couples visiting Bruges at any time of year - great location, great rooms, great service, great breakfast. Note that at the time of writing, there was a small discount for booking directly.

Our fourth time in Bruges and first time in a bed and breakfast. What an amazing place! A lovely welcome from Tine, who greeted us with a choice of beer, wine or hot drinks. Our 'rooms' were lovely, well furnished and decorated with views over the canal a tthe back. We had a fantastic breakfast and wonderful hosts. We will definitely come back!

Booked this via Booking.com. Have stayed in Brugge several times but this was the first time that we had stayed in a B&B, so was a bit apprehensive. Was greeted by Tine and the little Jack Russell dog. Our stay was very pleasant with the accommodation set out on three levels, suite Euphrasie. The decor was rustic, open log fire, roll top bath, large comfy bed, very clean and tidy. So welcoming to come home to lit candles, chocolates and fire ready to go. A lovely touch. Breakfast was plentiful. To the rear of the accommodation was views of the canal and to the front a walled garden. The location was perfect. We had a fabulous stay and would recommend to all. I contacted Tine Hessels, the owner of Hotel Die Swaene and Canal Delux, in early August 2012 to make a reservation for Brugge when I visited in September 2012. The conversations we had over the next few days made it very clear that Tine is not a trustworthy person in any sense and will fleece you out of as much money as possible. This is, ultimately, not a review of the bed and breakfast (since clearly we did not stay there) but is still relevant for travelers to understand who they are giving their money to and what they could expect if they stayed here.

It started when I had asked for dates that were booked at Canal Delux - she mentioned she was sold out for one night, but could split up the stay in the two properties she managed. She started off saying that she would be able to make a grand "exception" for us with a rate of 160 euros per night. I realized later that the 140 euro room included a 20 euro charge for single-night reservations (in both hotels)! We were helping with her occupancy rate, and she was charging us more for it. Within her right to charge us this, but it started me thinking she might not be as helpful as she claims.

Despite the negative signals, we still wanted to stay. When I went back to confirm, she mentioned that the Canal Delux (the more expensive one) was no longer available, so two nights at the Die Swaene would be 160 euros per night for a total of 320 euros. At this point, she was charging us two nights and included the one-night stay fee (on both nights)! Furthermore, the online booking system said the room was available for 230 euros for two nights, not the 320 euros she quoted us.

I confronted Tine about this - her explanation was that the rooms in the Canal Delux were always upgraded, yet the room she offered was in the Hotel Die Swaene. Her final email to me was "I really do not feel the need to go into discussion".

No, Tine, you do owe people a real explanation. I would recommend everyone avoid staying either at the Canal Delux or the Die Swaene - who knows what else Tine might "offer".

Dear Sir,
the extra cost of 20€ for a 1 night stay at Canal Deluxe is ALWAYS being charged as, in general, we do not even accept 1 night stays unless when we have a gap between 2 dates. This is clearly mentioned on our website. In case I do not have any rooms available I'll send the mail in cc to my other business or a befriended b&b so they can make an offer. The client is free in accepting this deal.
When I do have space for a part of your requested date at Canal Deluxe and the other requested dates are available at hotel Die Swaene I propose both of them.
The rates we offer at Die Swaene to guests applying through Canal Deluxe are ALWAYS interesting deals as they ALWAYS get an upgrade to a deluxe or even a superior deluxe . I mentioned this upgrade to you.
When comparing rates between straight online booking with hotel Die Swaene and online booking through an OTA you should always check the conditions. Then you might have noticed that breakfast is never included when booking with an Online Travel Agent and always is when booking straight on line with the hotel. (20€ a person a day so 40€ extra for a double room)
I have been in this type of business for more than 20 years and have developed a 6th sense about what type of person I'm dealing with and after your 4th mail I did no longer feel the need to go into discussion....I much more prefer to spend my time in pampering my guests who do really appreciate their stay at Canal Deluxe. Because after all Mr. Lee, was this also not the reason why YOU contacted Canal Deluxe???

What a great place. I booked this B&B on the basis of great reviews and was not disappointed. Idyllic location, short walk from Brugges old town centre, Markt Platz, The Belfry etc but quiet and peaceful situated on a quiet stretch of water. we stayed in suite Euphrasie - the bath was huge and no shortage of hot water.Nespresso machine and choice of herb teas a nice touch, as were the chocolates, log fire and 'turn down' service - so nice coming home to drawn blinds, candles and a fresh fire ready to be lit. Fantastic hosts with useful local information, a complimentary 2hr guided history walk and fab breakfasts. We even got a very substantial packed breakfast provided on the morning of departure as our train was at 6am! All in all an excellent stay. Really made our trip. Would recommend and stay again. Thanks Tine and family...and Seppe of course!
