“We absolutely LOVED IT!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

The hosts Tine & Luc were so kind to us and helpful, and their dog Seppe is gorgeous!! :)

The rooms and setting are beautiful, with biggest bed we've ever slept in, and the shower is far and away the best one I've ever had the pleasure to use!!!

We absolutely loved staying here, I was really sad to leave and can't wait to get back there!! I would recommend this B&B to everyone!

Here’s what you need to know: swans, canal, in-room espresso, breakfast, garden, air conditioning, excellent wifi, perfect location, all around awesome.

My boyfriend and I took the train from Cologne, Germany into Brugge on a Saturday afternoon in mid-August, catching a taxi from the train station to the Canal Deluxe B&B just off the main square. We were greeted by the proprietor Tine and her delicious Jack Russell terrier Seffa (probably spelling that wrong but that’s how it’s pronounced). We felt instantly welcomed! Tine showed us to our room, one of two loft-style accommodations located behind her residence across her amazing garden and courtyard. The guest house is situated right up next to a canal, the loft we stayed in was gorgeously decorated and perfectly set up for everything we were hoping for during our quick trip to Brugge. This is literally everything you are looking for in a quaint, boutique-feeling bed and breakfast with a taste of Brugge out your window (you’ll see the swans and ducks float by often).

The owner, Tine, brought us refreshments (accept the Belgian beer!) and spent some time showing us her recommendations for what to do and where to go in Brugge. Immensely helpful as we had not done much planning in advance – it was just what we needed.

As for the bells and whistles you can expect in the room – we were ecstatic to find a Nespresso machine right there in our room (we use the same espresso machine at home) as well all the tools you might need including bottle openers, paring knife, spoons, glasses, mugs, water, mini fridge, kettle AND a giant amazing fireplace. It was August so no need for the fire (and almost the hottest day on record by the way) but it really added to the comfort of the room and made me want to come back in the winter. In the bedroom and bathroom upstairs you’ll find modern everything, comfy giant bed, hair dryer, instantly hot shower, shaving mirror, mini toiletries as needed. windows facing the garden and canal, plenty of space to spread out, a flat screen TV, and a thermostat with excellent air conditioning (thank goodness!). Also, 100% the best (free) WiFi we had during our entire two weeks in Europe!

Tine can bring breakfast to your room if you’re not early birds, or you can join her in her kitchen across the garden. You might also see other guests - but it won't be a large group as there are only two suites available. Awesome breakfast – yogurt w/fixings, delicious meats and cheeses, fresh baked breads with honey, nutella, jellies, butter, etc. The fresh squeezed orange juice is wonderful and cooked eggs make this an excellent way to start your day.

One important note that I had forgotten due to all of my researching and talking to other B&Bs, hotels, making reservations, figuring out where to go, etc. – Canal Deluxe B&B is cash-only. Don’t forget! Otherwise your boyfriend might have to borrow Tine’s bike to rush to the ATM causing your taxi to wait (on the clock), and making you almost late for your train to Paris, of which there might not be another one until the next day! Trip planning can be very time consuming and it can be easy to lose sight of those details, so I know I would have benefitted from a little reminder before I got there or perhaps the day before we checked out – I felt terrible having forgotten and then all the rushing around was a little stressful on our last morning.

I hope that I can go back to Brugge sometime, as there are some parks and churches I did not get to fully experience during my brief stay. If I do go back, I will absolutely stay at the Canal Deluxe B&B again; a) the dog is adorable, b) I can’t imagine it gets much better than this!

See my review on Kaffe Pergola if you’re looking for a great canal-side restaurant in Brugge with delicious food and plenty of ambiance.

Tine & Luc are such welcoming hosts and show you to your private cottage at the end of their courtyard garden, sit you down with a drink and talk you through the local recommended sights to see, places of interest & restaurants to visit. Seppe the friendly jack russell is always on hand for cuddles making this even more a home away from home. The little thoughtful touches are what make this place so special, there is nothing that hasn't been thought of including Tine leaving fresh sable or choccy truffles for you to enjoy on your return each evening. You're made to feel very welcome but left to your own devices when you prefer, eating the scrumptious 5* breakfast in the privacy of your suite or in the family kitchen chatting with Tine. Just a few of the reasons we loved Canal Deluxe; sipping a glass of wine on the private terrace watching a family of swans glide past each evening, relaxing in the giant bathtub by candle light & whiling away an evening in front of the open fire - all ensured the most relaxing & romantic break we have experienced in a long time. The guest book comments are overwhelmingly positive with many promising a return trip - we will certainly be returning to experience Bruges in the snow and take full advantage of the cosy open fire and more of Tine's excellent restaurant recommendations. If you're thinking of visiting Bruges do, and stay here - it will be a very special experience.

I'm going to keep this short because the almost 100% 5-star-rating should tell you all you need to know.

We stayed here for a few days around my 30th birthday and even though the famous owners were on holidays, several family members kept the business running, and our experience was absolutely flawless. We felt incredibly well taken care of, like a part of the family, as others have written. The weather wasn't the best, and we didn't enjoy the town itself all that much, so staying at the lovely Canal Deluxe absolutely made our holiday. We enjoyed every minute and often decided to stay at "home" instead of taking on the tourist masses. Thanks for everything!

I think the quality of the breakfast might have suffered a little bit from the owners not being there? It was a regular Middle European breakfast with bread and cheese and cold cuts, but after reading the reviews, we were expecting some sort of miraculous feast, which it definitely wasn't. This was the least I'd expect considering the price we paid.
If there was a little thing I'd love to see improved before I return, it would be awesome if the toilet door in the Eugene suite could be fully closed. That was a bit more intimacy than we needed. ;)

Room Tip: "Euphrasie" is a bit more expensive than "Eugène", it has a larger bath with a t...

If ever you intend to visit Bruges, this is like the place to be!!!! Close to everything (like max 10 min walking distance). Extremely inviting hosts, great breakfast. Oh and like the interior decoration and the room are so indescribably nice... And summer enjoying yr morning waking up on your little private terrace on the canal... oh very very good, and the classic bathtub in the bathroom, almost too romantic... Very good beds as well. I would say if you aim to treat your loved one to a romantic weekend - there is no better option available!! (if you like animals you'll specifically enjoy the extremely warm welcome by Seppe and Martha, who form an integral part of this unforgettable experience!

The Canal Deluxe B & B is beautiful, and the hosts are very welcoming and bend over backwards to make your stay pleasant. The breakfast was superb -- perhaps the best I have ever had in a B&B - fruit, delicious breads, croissants, etc., eggs, cold meats. Perfect! The room was lovely -- fireplace, with fire laid and ready to go, very comfortable bed, free wifi, well-appointed bathroom. They offer bikes for rent at a very reasonable price, and Bruges is a lovely place to ride a bike, whether in town, or in the parks or along the canals. There is a lovely garden at street level, as well as below on the canal.
My only caveat is that in the apartment where we stayed, the bathroom was 2 stories below the bedroom and accessible only by a spiral staircase. Be forewarned, anyone who needs to get up in the middle of the night! But if you can manage that, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Bathroom not on same floor as bedroom.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July - for a joint celebration - anniversary, my birthday and a work celebration. Couldn't have chosen better - the hosts were both wonderful, the fire was lit with a breakfast brought in for us while we were still in bed on the first morning - lovely continental breakfast. Close to amenities - can walk everywhere. A dream break away and made more wonderful by this B&B. Didn't leave the room till 12 on first morning - leisurely breakfast in front of fire. Evening - champagne sitting next to the canal at the back of the room- couldn't beat it. Highly recommended.
