Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your appreciation. Our reception staff will be very pleased to hear about your postive feedback. As regards the rudeness of the barman, I would like to emphasize that this kind of behaviour does not in any way comply with the standards we strive for. Rest assured that his conduct will be looked into.

Kind regards,

On the face of it the Ibis is a great place to stay- location is ideal, and from the outside the place looks good. Unfortunately as soon as you step inside you are met with a smell of sewerage that makes you feel sick instantly. Once you get to your room the smell is slightly better and the rooms are ok, but just not pleasant stay. Wouldn't book there again.

Dear guest, and to all others who have shared their concerns about the smell in our lobby and reception area on Tripadvisor,

May I kindly draw your attention to the fact that this “smell” has always been present in Bruges, due to the presence of the canals in town, and especially in periods of heavy rainfall (November). In Bruges there even exists an oral expression to depict this phenomenon (the welling of the water).
Nevertheless we have asked an external company to investigate if there would also be a problem with our drains, which is not the case.
I really do hope that this “smell” will not stop you from choosing our hotel for your next visit to the “Venice (canals) of the North” .
Thank you very much for your comprehension.
Kind regards,

This place stinks like a cess pit! It really is horrendous. The air con is rubbish, the place was baking (in November!). The decor is early 90s, fading wallpaper, Formica table lamps; stay somewhere else if you can!

Room Tip: Go on the upper floors to escape the smell

As others have said it is not very welcoming to be hit by the smell of drains as you enter the lobby but when you get in the room it is fine - more or less.It must be something to do with the canal I assume or you would hope they would have fixed it. Otherwise the rooms were as expected - small but clean and the bed fine.We never eat the breakfast but lattes from the bar were good and the meal we had there was better than many we had outside plus the service was cheerful.
No tea tray in the room, like some Ibis we have stayed in , but maybe that is only in the UK where we like our tea .
The location is OK but it is a ten minute walk to the centre. You go along a street with interesting architecture and it is quiet at night so it is fine..

Room Tip: If the smell is not cleared choose a high floor. Our room was perfectly quiet on the second floor.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our city break. The rooms were reasonable at €55 a night. Although they weren't fancy, they were clean and had everything we needed. The gentleman at reception was very friendly and we liked the 24 hour bar and snack facility. You can walk easily around Bruges from the location, it's right on a strip of touristy type shops, a couple of mins walk to the church, cathedral, main squares etc. parking was €8.70 a day which is not the worst I've paid for hotel parking by any means! We would definitely stay here again :) oh ps the downside was indeed the smell, it was just like the sulphur type smell you get in Iceland! In fairness the smell was also in some other places we visited and in some streets so maybe more of a general issue? The room smelled fine, it was just reception

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your positive review! I'm also pleased to read that you recognize "the smell" as a general issue for the city of Bruges, due to the presence of stagnant water in the canals and reinforced in case of weather changes.
