“value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

If you visit a town for a weekend, you don't want to spend half your time travelling up and down, you want a hotel right in the centre. But then it shouldn't be too expensive -- not that I mind some luxury, but still I'd rather spend my money on a good meal, or an interesting museum catalogue (sorry, I am a historian, and I am always buying books (or reading them, reviewing them and occasionally writing them). So every euro saved....), Anyhow, this Ibis hotel is in a marvellous position: a 10-15 minute walk from the station, and minutes away from all the great things to see in Brugge. Imagine that just down the same street there is a sculpture by Michelangelo, and a whole room of paintings by Memling. This Ibis, as all Ibis hotels, and I have been to quite a few, offers excellent value for money. And not only is it relatively cheap, when you are on their mailing list you get special offers that can make your stay really dirt cheap! Facilities and rooms are always decent (the beds very good indeed). I personally find the breakfast too expensive, but then it is optional and Bruges is teeming with places to eat breakfast. Alltogether, it is great that something like the Ibis chain exists.

Room Tip: At this Ibis all rooms are okay -- the hotel is on a very quiet courtyard.

After a long and tiring day, we were greeted by a very friendly, helpful gentleman on reception and after going up to our room, we went straight down to the restaurant. The service and food were excellent and quite reasonably priced considering the location, and both staff and fellow diners were understanding when our toddler decided he would rather potter around than sit down while waiting for our food to arrive.
Our room was clean, the bed was comfy, the travel cot we had requested was a good size and it was just what we needed. The only slight downside was the noise from the street and some inconsiderate noisy fellow guests in the early hours (although this is not the hotels fault).
We left the next morning for a day exploring the city, which is really lovely. The location of the hotel is excellent - 5 minutes walk from the main centre - and the car park was right next door (we had to pay for this but did not really mind).
We would definitely recommend this hotel!

Great location - easy to find (provided you use “street view” before you set off as the signage is very small) and good parking in public underground car park (9 euros a day though)

Be warned, the car park is extremely dusty and after two days you will need a car wash!

Easy walk into the town for sight-seeing, dinner and lunch etc.

Comfortable but small room. Excellent bed and had two very good nights. Bathroom very good but again was small, with a badly positioned toilet which was very uncomfortable to use.

Traffic noise was very noticeable even with the window firmly closed!

The hotel is very clean and tidy, good staff and an excellent breakfast served in a spacious room - very comfortable and relaxed (This Ibis has a restaurant and bar and this is what makes the area comfortable and uncrowded)

Breakfast for two over two nights came to 56.00 euro so if you include the parking charge the entire cost was more than 225 euro for a couple staying for two nights. Bear in mind that this Ibis is well above the average Ibis.

Overall this was a very pleasant hotel and I will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quieter room away from the road

Spent there 2 nights - perfect location in the Old Town of Bruges, just a few hundreds metres from the very centre of the Old Town. The staff was very helpful., rooms are clean and tidy but could be bigger (although I loved having a bathtube insted of shower). There was hardly any trafiic around, so I could sleep really sound. Definetely a good choice for staying in Bruges.

As you may be aware, not all hotels are the same, just as all Ibis Hotels are not the same. This one's a goody, in the heart of Brugge, good service and tidy clean rooms. So for a reasonable sum , you get a good room, from which you can easily go and roam around Brugge, no taxis, buses, or trains needed. Don't make the mistake of booking the budget Ibis next to the train station, for no other reason than that the Centrum is so much closer to the action. You just walk out the door into a quaint Belgian street and get on with what you're doing there, which I suspect will be being a tourist. Nothing wrong with that, it's what most of us are doing in Brugge. And you can walk, or stagger back to your room any time you like, depending on how many full strength Belgian beers you choose to imbibe. All very pretty.
