“comfortable and conveniently located”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

At only a 15-20 minute walk from the station and about a 10 minute walk into the Markt this Hotel is conveniently situated. We had a Gentlemans Superior room which was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was more than ample with a selection of Continental or English (eggs, bacon etc). A nice touch was that free tea and coffee was available throughout the day up to 6pm so if you fancied a break from walking around you could pop back to the Hotel have a drink and sit in the pleasant garden. The staff at reception were helpful when enquiring about trips and restaurants.

This delightful hotel was our first Belgian treat, the chocolate came later ! On a quiet street a hundred or so yards from the main thoroughfare , it oozes class. A large garden with surrounding rooms if you don't want to stay the main building. Clean and comfortable rooms (en suite), attentive, efficient staff. Highly recommended.

I booked this hotel on a last minute whim for my girlfriend's 27th birthday. I had the obligatory look on trip advisor but didn't check out any pictures.

There's parking adjacent to the hotel for 15€/24hr which was handy and secure enough. The hotel looks like any other from the street, but it's a real treat inside. Upon checking in we were led out of the main hotel and into the garden, which is lovely, with apprehension we followed! We need not have worried though, as we were shown into room 17 which we'd later find out is actually a suite! Living room and bathroom downstairs, big double bedroom upstairs. Nice and clean, flat screens in living and bedroom, fire places and wifi. We enjoyed spending time in the suite even with the fantastic Bruges centre a 2 minute walk away.

You won't be disappointed.

My husband booked this hotel to celebrate my birthday. The location is great, just a five minute walk or so to the main areas, but in a quiet location. We had a ground floor garden room whch was very nice. It was spacious, comfortable and clean. We didn't have the breakfast as it seemed a little expensive at 16 euros a person. The main areas of the hotel, and garden, are very nice though. With regard to tea/coffee, although they say that it is available free to guests, it is only actually available after 11am and not in the evening. As most people are out during the day, and will want tea/coffee in the morning before they go out, this is inconvenient. As a 4 star hotel I would expect there to be tea/coffee facilities in the room.

We had booked this hotel through Eurostar and on the 'special requests' section had just asked that we had a double bed rather than twin beds. When we arrived we were disappointed to find that we had twin beds which had been pushed together but were made up separately. We pointed this out to the hotel and they said that they had not received this request from Eurostar and that the housekeeping staff went home at 4pm so there was nothing they could do. They assured us that they would replace the twin mattresses with a double mattress when the room was serviced the next morning. However, this was not done. After returning from a day out we were yet again disappointed to find that they had still left the room with twin mattresses What was more disappointing was their response. They suggested we take this up with Eurostar rather than with them. I pointed out that they should be the ones bringing this up with Eurostar as they allow customers to book through them, and that they had promised us when we arrived that they would change the beds the following day but then failed to do so and they just didn't seem very bothered at all.

Overall a decent hotel but the service could be improved.

Many pluses, but many minuses too. Very mixed feelings about the hotel. It was not bad at all, but they can't claim to be 4 stars hotel. To start with pluses: I've got upgrade to very unique room, which in fact was small separate wooden house in the middle of the courtyard. Very nice experience, but... the key was not working 2 days out of 4. That means that I couldn't get into my room without asking reception to come with me and open my door. A bit annoying and not comfortable at all. The room smelled a bit because of moisture. The hotel is very small and cozy, nice design and beautiful courtyard. The location is perfect! Internet is only in main building, close to reception area, which is really big disadvantage. Hotel is offering limited services (that's why cannot claim 4* at any reason): breakfast only, 24 hours bar. You may enjoy free tea and coffee in the lounge during the day (which is really nice), but not in the morning and not in the evening. There is a parking area, which belongs to the hotel, but be careful, the road surface is the worst ever. Reception works not 24 hours (which I can understand due to small size of the property), so be careful if you plan to check in / check out early in the morning or late in the night. Also my check out lasted about 30 minutes and in the end my credit card was charged only few days after check out (which I can also understand, as it may happen with every hotel). But I'm still waiting for my receipt / folio by post... So, if you don't expect too much and take small failures here and there easy, you will definitely enjoy your stay.

We were upgraded upon arrival to a suite on the street side of the hotel as all of the "romantic garden rooms" (which we reserved) were taken. My wife was very disappointed. The room was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks and a good shower/tub. However, in order to cool the room we had to open the window which fronted on a cobblestone street. Needless to say, the noise of passing cars was very annoying as was the commotion caused by late night pedestrians. This hotel was going to be our splurge and we reserved a "romantic garden room" and instead got a large noisy room.
Breakfast was very expensive at 16 euros per day. If you desired only coffee it was free after 11 am, but there was a 2:50 euro charge before 11. Internet service was only available in the downstairs common rooms. The staff, especially Lore, was helpful although the staffing levels were grossly inadequate. Not what we expected from a four star hotel.

Room Tip: Do not accept a street side room.

Me and my wife chose to spend our honeymoon in Belgium and we picked Hotel Montanus for our stay in Bruges. We stayed for five nights and it was wonderful! The staff are very nice and helpful. We got upgraded TWICE, for free, so we ended up staying in one of the two suites in the mansion. It was an amazing experience. The interior is really wonderful, the bed is HUGE and very comfy. Would recommend it in a heart beat. Book early for huge discounts and package deals. You won't be sorry.
