We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 a.m. The receptionist was really kind and welcoming and provided us with some convenient information, however, she had to tell us that our room was not yet ready. We asked for a room in one of the highest floors and we were offered a room at the second floor and we got an upgrade, so we were happy. She kindly offered to accept our bags for the luggage room and we went into town.
The location of the hotel is very good as you can reach it very easily both by car and by train/bus and still you are in the old city centre. At the end of the afternoon we returned to the hotel and got a room at the ground floor. We told the receptionist that we were promised a room at the second floor and an upgrade and she immediately changed the room for one in the second floor. The room was nice and provided with everything you need. However, we found some empty candy wrappings in the room. We were surprised but took no further notice and relaxed for some time. Then my husband decided to go to the bathroom to find that that had been used. We decided to return to the reception. The receptionist was clearly embarrassed by what we told and immediately moved us to another room. We got two vouchers for a drink in the bar.
After this incident we found our stay very comfortable. The hotel has a nice atmosphere and personnel is all very kind. Breakfast was really good and though very busy at the time we were there everything was always there.
We liked the bar as well, the bar tender was really kind and gave us some advice regarding the beer. The fitness room is very well kept, which is not always the case in a hotel.

Closeness to railway station was important for us and this is only a 10 minute walk. From hotel you are just over the road to the city centre and so very convenient all round. Reception and breakfast staff all very friendly and efficient. Breakfast at the reduced rate (for pre-booking) of 15 Euros was fine. Good sized room with tea making facilities (hurrah!). Decor a little tired in places but perfectly clean and comfortable.

Nice hotel, in a great location that is close to the centre as well as close to the train station.

We booked this hotel through last minute.com, using their top secret method. I.e you don't find out the name of the hotel, until you have paid. Risky, but fun and means you get some good rates. However, in this instance the room they initially showed us to was absolutely dire! Dark, dingy, faces the back of the hotel overlooking a flat roof and had one of those hideous yellow-ed plastic hairdryers that is stuck to the wall!! I can't actually remember what the bedding was like, as we decided within seconds of walking in the room, that we did not want to stay in such a time warp!

We upgraded to a deluxe room for an additional 20euros a night. 100% worth it. Our new room was furnished and decorated to a much higher standard, a proper duvet, huge bed with lots of pillows and a great view of the square. It makes coming home at the end of a long day on your touristy feet, much more pleasurable.

The lesson here, is you get what you pay for. The reason the deal on last minute.com was so cheap, was they had put us in a 2* room! Which apparently was part of the old Sofitel range and was still yet to be renovated, according to the receptionist.

I think this is why you will find such mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. Each guest has had a different experience depending on which room they have stayed in.

Besides the irritating room situation the rest of the hotel was perfect for a weekend away in Brugge. Cosy bar and very helpful staff throughout.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the hotel and check if it is one of their old Sofitel rooms, which ar...

Nice hotel, friendly staff, great location close to the center of town but far enough to be quiet. Beds however are very worn and not comfortable. Good restaurant and bar. I would recommend this hotel but management needs to consider updating the beds.

The train station is about five minutes walk from the hotel so if you are travelling from Brusselles then it is ideal. The hotel is clean with helpful staff and my room had one of the most comfortable beds that I have slept in at a hotel for a long time. This includes hotels with a lot more stars on the door than this one. Breakfast was the usual selection although the bacon was more in keeping with the English style than you would usually see on the continent so it gets a well done tick from me, and a gold star for that bed!

The Good: It is a great location and not expensive. The rooms are a good size and it is clean. The web access is free.

The Bad: The web access is incredibly, annoyingly slow. The place is tired and needs redecorating. The shower in my room was fairly pathetic. The restaurant is badly run. It would be better not to leave the door betwen the restaurant and kitchen propped wide open if there is mess, bins and dirty crockery behind it - it is not nice for the guests. A sad, scruffy little sheet of A4 paper telling the staff to "smile" as they walked through it was sellotaped at top and bottom- but curling away and flapping at the edges - apparently whoever is responsible for customer service training couldn't even be bothered to make a full effort at that. The breakfast was wide ranging but poor - rubbery scrambled eggs and muesli that was unbearably sweet - cut fruits to give the "healthy option" but in fact they looked very unattractive indeed- pineapple turning brown as an example. The plates were not regularly replenished, so later arrivals were presented with that "end of buffet" look. The food in the evening was ordinary and overpriced. Do not under any circumstances eat in the restaurant- there are many options for delicious food only a 5 minute walk away.

This hotel is idyllic Bruges in a nutshell. The building is beautiful, the features in the room are excellent, and yet retain the "quaint" feel with real stone surfaces in the bathroom and finely crafted wooden furniture.

The staff were excellent, and above all the location couldn't be better. Very short walk to the best sights in Bruges (maybe 5 mins from the main squares and cathedrals), and about the same distance from the train station (10 mins walk tops)

We even got a 5pm checkout on the Sunday, allowing us to make the most of our last day without worrying about packing and storing bags.

Only slight down-side was the view from the room, which was just over the roof of the reception area (room 224 i think?). A few plants and a bit of turf would have made a lot of difference.

Can't recommend this hotel more for a fantastic stay.
