Thoroughly enjoyed our February weekend at the Casselbergh celebrating my husband's 50th! We normally favour boutique style modern hotels but after reading others reviews on tripadvisor decided to give the Casselbergh a try - it was absolutely the best decision! It has the style and grandeur of a stately home with the 'attention to detail' personal service of a small country house. Our deluxe room on the top floor was very spacious and luxurious (loved the thick white bathrobes and Occitaine bath products!). Location was perfect. After a lovely day out walking through fairytale Bruges in the snow, it was wonderful to sit by the open fire in the lounge sipping Calvados, marvelling at the immense crystal chandaliers. Bar prices were really reasonable and good measures too! Buffet Breakfast was included in our room rate (check this when you book), and it set us up for the whole day. Staff were friendly, informative and super efficient. Wanted to stay another night & can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Worth opting for a deluxe room in the 'old' part of hotel!

My Mum and I stayed at the Casselbergh for 3 nights in February 2012. The hotel was easy to find and is in a great central location. Our room was excellent, spacious and clean and had all expected facilities. The staff were great, friendly and efficient. The only downside we felt was the breakfast. We didn't realise it wasn't included on our deal and we weren't told as we tucked into a fabulous breakfast the first morning. The selection of fruit, pastries and cooked food was brilliant however you would expect it to be for 25 Euro's each! We were informed on our second morning that breakfast wasn't in our deal so we decided to eat in one of the local patisseries instead. Our fault for not reading our booking details properly but was a bit of a shock. Apart from that we couldn't fault the hotel and really enjoyed our trip to Bruges.

Stayed here with my wife for a long (romantic) weekend.

Fantastic location, close to the heart of the old city. (very handy parking space was much appreciated, especially in Bruges!)

The room was perfect, very high ceiling, great quality of the beds. if this is not good enough for you, go to Kempinski bruges, you won't find better elsewhere.

Great breakfast with sufficient variety.

Spa is good.

No possibility to dine in here but with with all you have around the hotel, this was not an issue (tip; try Aneth restaurant, we spent a great evening there - 1 Michelin star)

Looking for romantic escapism? Go to this place, you won't regret it!

We stayed here as a family of four in February for my husbands 40th birthday...What a treat! The hotel is STUNNING inside, beautiful drapes and upholstery, fine art and crystal chandeliers everywhere. Check in was great...we were earlier than the 3pm check-in but they checked and our room was ready! We had a lovely duplex room...HUGE...with a little staircase to the two single beds for our children. The beds were very comfy and the room clean and comfy. It was warm in the room, so we adjusted the heating accordingly. I do think the wooden stairs should be carpeted...you can hear the neighbours children going up the stairs so I am sure they could hear ours!! We had drinks in the bar, and were delighted with our surroundings and the little extras all included at no extra cost....and for a quality hotel the bar prices are very reasonable. Our children loved the hot chocolate served in little silver pots so they could pour it themselves. After a great nights sleep we had a fabulous breakfast...full cooked and continental with freshly squeezed juices ..we felt really spoilt. The Hotel does not have a restaurant - perhaps this is why is doesnt have 5 stars - but with over 300 restaurants nearby they surely dont need one. The Hotel is very centrally placed in Bruges, a few seconds walk and you are in the Burg/Markt. The canal runs behind the hotel, and rooms to the rear have a view of it. We were in the older part of the Hotel (Old as in age...rather than dated...) it as a newer extension which I think has the canal views. Overall, if/when we return to Bruges I would not even think about staying anywhere else. TIP...if you email the Hotel I am sure they would consider your request for a room in the old or new part of the building.

Room was stunning, we were in the old part of the hotel and everything was perfect, from the chandelier to the super king size bed. Communal areas were exceptionally clean. Bathroom was a good size with separate shower and bath. Breakfast was a good mix of both hot and cold food. Location was brilliant just a short walk to the main square.
Would definately stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in February 2012 - a fantastic time of the year to visit a city that can become so packed with loud American tourists during the summer;) Bruges is an absolutely beautiful city and well worth a visit.

The Grand Hotel Casselbergh was clean, very central and we had a really pleasant stay. We were in the new part of the hotel, and had a beautiful view of the cathedral and rooftops, and the frozen canal that people were walking along:)

Our room was clean and comfortable, with an actual king-size bed, as opposed to two singles pushed together.
The bathroom was clean and new enough to feel pleasant. The shower was only okay though, as there was nowhere to stand in the shower where you weren't directly under the shower head - no big complaint - just irritating.

We had a horrible sleep the first night, as the air-conditioning didn't seem to work and it was far too hot and stuffy. The second night, we opened the window, despite the freezing temperature, and slept like babies. A bit of fresh air can do wonders in bigger hotels with all that stuffy air circulating around the rooms!

Breakfast was good - nothing utterly amazing, just good for a hotel breakfast. The croissants were very fresh and were among the best we've had at a hotel breakfast. We didn't have any hot food, but there were bacon, eggs and sausages, I think.

The lounge area is comfortable and cosy, and we spent about 4 hours here on our last day before our train left and we'd had enough of walking around. No snacks available in the bar, but plenty of drinks.

The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful, and responded to my many emails before arriving promptly and in a friendly manner. They even left a box of chocolates in our room, I think because I advised them we were staying for my husband's birthday - so nice of them! They were pretty amazing chocolates too, from Roose's:)

We would highly recommend staying here and would happily stay here again if we return to Bruges.

Stayed early Feb. Location was superb, communal areas exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast typical buffet style, nothing special. Room was fine but very much in a corporate style with no soul ( we had a room in the new part). Only got 1 coffee sachet each (mean!) and I guess I do not get as excited about L'Occitaine miniatures in the bathrooms other reviewers seem to. There was a box of chocs waiting for us on arrival, we ate a couple and left the rest for the rest of our stay but they disappeared the next day. We reported this to reception but we did not get another. The hotel did feel like a corporate hotel to me rather than a holiday hotel with people having meetings and working on laptops in the lounge. The hotel would also benefit with a small bar menu on offer for people who want light snacks. The staff were all very nice and helpful.

As far as Bruges is concerned it was freezing , grey and miserable and I feel we did not get the best out of our trip. A lot of things were closed so I would not recommend going at this time of year.
