Very good location and very good hotel in Bruges - we had a fine room in the "older" part of the hotel. Service was excellent and the breakfasts were delightful.

Well located close to city centre and canals. Easy walk to all of central Bruges. Comfortable modern room in good condition. Our room was quiet. Large underground car park accessed by car lift which was very secure. Quick check in and out. Well organised breakfast buffet with no waits. Quick efficient lifts - no waiting. No restaurant on site but many within very easy walking distance.

I have just spent my birthday in Bruge and it will be one I will always remember! The Grand Hotel Casselbergh is a lovely hotel and the location is spot on! So close to the Maarkt and within walking distance of everything you would want to see. Checking in was seamless and the lovely receptionist made a point of telling us that our room was special and she had been told not to change it (obviously Railbookers had let them know it was my birthday). We were not disappointed. Our room was in the "old wing" (12-14) with a cathedral ceiling and exposed wooden beams - with this most beautiful chandalier (I've attached a photo - however - it doesn't really do it justice)! Bathroom was very well appointed with a "rain" shower cubicle along with a large bath. The amentiies were L'Occitane (my favorite). The bed was 2 singles put together which really wasn't a problem - as they were extremely comfortable. Our breakfast was part of our package and we were most impressed with the huge range that was on offer! Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were definitely the order of the day for us. However, the range was quite extensive. You would not be disappointed (and we are quite fussy believe you me). In summary, we absolutely loved the Grand Hotel Casselbergh in Bruge - it's a lovely hotel, quite classy and found the service to be excellent! You will not be disappointed in choosing this lovely hotel!

We stayed 1 night at the Grand Hotel. English is spoken extensively throughout the hotel and the check in staff were very helpful. Out room was very well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet with a mix of english & continental styles.
The bar area and lounge are fantastic places to relax after a days exploring. The hotel is very well located for all Bruges attractions.

We usually have 2 or more long weekends in Brugge each year, we mainly stay in the Crowne Plaza just across the road from the Casselbergh, but as it looked so appealing we chose this 4 day break to try the Casselbergh. We chose the mid-price Executive Room in the main building as this looked closest to the Queen de-luxe rooms in the Crowne Plaza.

The old main building is in traditional style and feels grand and well maintained, the public rooms are very neat, clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. Security is clearly taken very seriously in the Casselbergh, you can only proceed to the hotel rooms by swiping your room card.

We didn't enter the newer building, but the rooms look quite a bit smaller, the building is an extremely ugly bronze painted steel clad eyesore, how the town planners allowed this in a Unesco World Heritage city beggars belief, but ugly modern buildings are increasingly rising throughout the city.

The hotel has an underground car park which is accessed via a car lift, it is well lit and feels very safe, unlike the Crowne plaza car park which is open to the public and accessible from the street.

Our room was 1120, on the 1st floor, well away from the stairs and the 2 lifts. The entire area at the top of the grand staircase is enclosed in clear glass with double secured doors, this further reduces noise around the bedrooms. The corridors are thickly carpetted, light, airy and decorated in the same style and to the same standard as the public rooms.

Room 1120 had a high ceiling, the room lit by a large chandelier and several table lamps and standard lamps, all can be dimmed. The room was a little smaller than expected, but didn't feel cramped. The bathroom, on the other hand was quite large, it was fitted to a high standard and had both a bath with shower over and a shower cubicle with power shower. The bathroom was tiled in beige marble which added to its spacious feel, it was spotlessly clean. the bathroom was stocked with a good selection of L'Occitane toiletries. The towels were spotlessly clean and in good condition, but had lost their 'fluffy' texture.

The bed was the best hotel bed I have ever had, and I've travelled some, two points though, it comprises 2 singles pushed together and it has single duvets, so those seeking a romantic interlude may find this somewhat off-putting. The bed linen was spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. The room had adjustable air conditioning which was silent and the airflow was barely perceptible. One point though, the refrigerator hummed quite noticeably, but I guess if that annoyed you, you could flick the switch off over night. I notice noises quickly, but the humming didn't bother me enough to switch the fridge off.

Our room rate included a buffet breakfast in the unusually decorated dining room on floor -1, the garage is floor -2, we tried it one day and the selection and quality was very good, but as we always have breakfast in the Craenenburg on the Markt, when we're In Brugge, we skipped it on the other mornings.

We had very little contact with the hotel staff, hotel staff in Brugge often appear a little aloof, they were no different at the Casselbergh, but watching them with other guests who needed assistance, they appeared to be very helpful and caring.

The price was about 30 Euros per night more expensive than the comparable room in the Crowne Plaza, but the price appeared to remain constant, whereas the Crowne Plaza rate can vary wildly for the same room for the same dates, depending when you book it. I find I have a rate in mind, when the price drops to that level I book, if it doesn't drop I experience another hotel.

To summarise, the Casselbergh is a lovely hotel, it is central, quiet, comfortable, clean, very well decorated and as the name suggests, Grand. It was just about worth the additional cost.

We've just spent three nights at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh and we cannot fault the service of the staff or the location of the hotel which was just a short stroll to all the local attractions. The hotel itself has a palatial feel and the bar area in particular is lovely and relaxing. We stayed in one of the beamed rooms on the top floor which had a separate dressing area and a powerful shower. Our only complaint was the fact that the bed was not a double but two singles pushed together. Apart from that we had no complaints whatsoever.

I thought the hotel was extremely well presented and the interior was beautiful. However I thought the reception staffs were very rude and unaccommodating. We asked to change rooms because of the massive amount of noise from the lift shaft (if you get room 1219 ask to change immediately) I am pregnant and am having terrible insomnia which was aggravated massively by the noise. I won’t bore you with the detail but they wouldn’t move us or should I say “couldn’t”. Well actually they said we could check out and not come back to a new room until much later, they made it seem like this was a huge hassle for them and the option was presented to us like we had leprosy and they wanted to get rid of us. They made no offer to help in any other way and we felt like old moaners, which we are not. Then we came in from a day out at 4.30 and our room had not been cleaned despite the fact we had had the “please make up our room” notice on our door since 9am. I phoned reception and was spoken to like a 5 year old child and they made me feel utterly ridiculous. I was extremely upset. Every single encounter was pure rudeness, there were more examples but I honestly cannot be bothered to waste time typing about them! The staff in this hotel ruined what was otherwise a magical time in bruges. I’m not sure when all the other reviews seem to think staff were excellent.
