“Not at all vegetarian, and a rip off”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

We came here specially because it is billed as a vegetarian restaurant. However, of the 4 choices on the menu, three were meat and only one - "large plate of vegetables" - seemed relevant. So, even though the atmosphere was not very welcoming, we sat down and ordered 2 large plates of vegetables. The waitress took our order, we removed our coats and settled down, then she came back and asked what we'd like to drink. We didn't want anything to drink. She said we had to order a drink, we couldn't order food without a drink. So we repeated that we really didn't want a drink. She consulted the manager, and came back to say we did indeed have to order a drink. So we left. How ridiculous!

So I can't tell you what the food tastes like, but I saw a plate of it and it didn't look appetising. Glad we left.

Went out of our way to locate this "vegetarian" restaurant, but kept on walking after spotting lamb on the menu :(

“Best vegetarian in Flanders”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

have been trying out many other vegetarians in belgium and always end up with Lotus

the different flavors and variation in taste is what attracts us

atmosphere is OK and surrounding is without any thrill, but just enjoy the food

“Delicious lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Went to this homely restaurant for a fantastic healthy lunch. The menu was handwritten in Flemish, but the waitress was only too happy to translate for us. I had the vegetarian plate, which consisted of six dishes! My partner enjoyed moussaka accompanied with a huge green salad. Opted for fresh mix of fruit/veg juices which consisted of carrots, oranges and apples, wonderfully invigorating :)

Good for vegetarians, Vegans and meat eaters

“This place is avoidable”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

If you want a less than exciting meal, and you like to feel like you are being taken advantage of, eat at Lotus. I wish that I could endorse this place since it is one of the only vegetarian restaurant options in Bruges.

My wife and I are vegetarian and were excited to eat here. We missed our first chance because they close at 1400 hrs. We ate there the next day.

-The food was average, pricey (in my opinion) for what you get, but Bruges is pricey. The building has a nice interior.
-The attitude of the staff was indifferent, and that was fine until they crossed the line. We both ordered a dish (vegetarian lunch plate, 12,50 euro/each) and no drink ( beware! Most restaurants charge for water!), and nothing else was said.
When I went to the washroom, the waiter told my wife that the manager wanted us to order a drink, since they were only open a few hours a day. Maybe this would have been okay, but they clearly did not make other patrons purchase a drink (locals, easily noticed by looking around).

It is not cool to take advantage of people and apparently there are places in Bruges that think it is okay. Eat here if you want to feel unwelcome and taken advantage of. A tourist trap restaurant will treat you better at the same price and may have better food.

Safe travels!
