Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. Visited here on a trip to the Christmas Markets. Lovely views and historical buildings. Fantastic selection of shops and places to eat or you could just sit and have a coffee outside and enjoy the atmosphere. Stallholders on the markets were very friendly and helpful and there were plenty of gift ideas if you were doing last minute shopping. You can go on a horse and carriage trip if you so desired or there were plenty of boat trips. Unfortunately we didn't have long enough there to do either but we will certainly return. It is well worth a visit.

This centre and indeed the entire historic town is a must see on anyone's list. One of the most if not the most beautiful medieval cities in all of Europe, perfectly preserved! Even the notoriously poor weather lends itself to the attraction as the beautifully lit buildings loom mysteriously through the fog at night.

Because of its popularity however, Brugges is a definite tourist trap. During weekends especially the town is bursting with tourists everywhere you look. Prices of food and accommodation are more exorbitant the closer you get to the centre of town, so think of staying further away or even outside the historic centre altogether if you are on a budget. Everything is within easy walking distance, and you will spend the entire day out exploring anyway.

Loved the Christmas market, disliked the lack of city maps so we got a bit lost but locals were more than happy to direct us.

This is the most disappointing Christmas market I have ever seen. And I have seen many since early childhood in Germany, Austria and even Birmingham. Pity I came all this way by Eurostar. The ice rink was thawing. Every other stand sells cheap and nasty Gluehwein.
