Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

Belgium and Beigians can be aloof however Bruges Centre for me is a distillation of Northern Europe in one small city centre. The architecture and Streets and the people are as I might have imagined life in the picturesque busy little town 400 years ago.
Combined with the variety f foreign tongues which seem at home here, it is truly cosmopolitan without trying....a Gem!
And do not leave without partaking of the chocolates found almost everywhere.......heaven!!

Small enough to visit all part of the city with comfort, even at my age. With horse buggy and bus tours available if needed. Amazing no horse poo in the streets.
Could have done with less rain but otherwise what is not to like? Plenty to see and I can understand why many of the other visitors we met return again and again

Full of history and character and felt very safe, very compact, could walk all round it easily in one day

What a marvellous place! Just wander around the little streets to find more and more hidden gems, we felt like we couldn't leave the place and took another round and another one....just take any of the lines with "centrum" at the railway station (buy your ticket before you get the bus, there is a ticket office right next to it, it's cheaper).

The city is flat so the walking is easy with many pedestrianised streets. There are plenty of shops albeit there are a lot of designer ones which are expensive. The Christmas market is good situated around the ice rink. The architecture is quite stunning throughout the city with the added attraction of the canals.
