Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

“A beautiful, charming city.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Bruges is a magical place caught in a time warp. Nearly every building is centuries old or at least the facade is, the narrow streets are paved with cobble stones, and there are several canals. The city is ringed by a canal and an ancient earthen wall. There are dozens of historic sites, museums, and churches open to the public. There are also hundreds of shops selling chocolates, lace, clothing and souvenirs and boats on the canals offering rides to tourists. The downside is that the streets are often crowded with tourists and groups of teenagers on school trips. The crowds thin out quickly after 5:00 pm when the shops and museums close and the city can be enjoyed in more peace.

“Magnific!”

Absolutely beautiful city, incredible buildings, canals, etc. Very peaceful and romantic. I went on a day tour from Brussels. I'll have to come back one day and stay there for at least 3 nights.

“Go mid-week and stay at least a night”

Comes into its own in the the evening midweek. They you have the centre quiet without the hordes of day trippers and weekenders. Good pubs, restaurants too. Fantastic buildings

“Beautiful, stunning and very romantic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

What a truly beautiful city, fantastic architecture, inspiring museums, lovely walks and some simply splendid restaurants. We have just spent 5 days here and I would return next week and do it all again. Do a canal trip, visit a museum, eat at a stunning restaurant, buy frites and mayo and just watch the world go by......a magical time. Oh and don't forget the waffles!

“Charming but incredibly crowded this time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

Bruges is wonderful w/ its picture perfect views of canals, 17th century houses, horse drawn carriages. But this time -May 1 - it was so packed that it almost wasn't nice anymore. A shopkeeper told us it was the cruise travelers who come from the harbor in Zeebrugge and visit Bruges for a few hours, buy chocolate and return to the boats. There must have been 20 large groups that we saw, and though it didn't wreck this amazing city, it did take away some of the charm that I remember from former visits.
