Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

“In Bruges...”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Bruges is a very old and historic town and has been kept the same for hundreds of years. There are lots of chocolatiers and bars, waffle shops, bistros, oh and churches!

Everything is in walking distance, if you don't mind walking everywhere, if not there are horse drawn carriages that do tours of the town, i would recommend the boat trips around the rivers and canals, very infomative!

We had planned to eat out in the main market square on the Thursday night but after getting ready and heading out a lot of places were overpriced or closed early. The restaurants were all closing at around 9-9:30pm and the bars didn't stay open much longer either!

“Second only to Venice”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Everywhere walkable. Amazing number of restaurants and cafes
those we used were clean and friendly. Superb pastries and of course chocolate. Do not attempt the Belfry unless you are fit! But worth the climb for the view.
Do go out to see Bruges by night.

“don't bother with the historium”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Lots of lovely mediaeval streets to wander round and drink hot chocolate. Some excellent galleries with art and nice shops. Buy a few days season pass and go on the canal trip. Don't bother with the historium; we were told its faked and expensive. Can't say about the first, but it certainly was the second, so we didn't bother.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Bruges is a beautiful town and one i would recommend. The architecture of the buildings are beautiful and the surrounding area make for a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Like all cities in Europe restaurants in the area are expensive and it can get busy with visitors but its well worth a visit.
