Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

We thought about driving around, we saw the huge Church tower sticking out. Drove towards it and found this amazing and beautiful historic square with the best Belgian Waffles

This city is really something special. We have never seen a place quite like this, it feels like it got stuck in time! My camera worked overtime!

We took a day trip here on the train from Brussels which was easy enough. We wandered around the little winding cobbled streets and were blown away by the historic centre - so picturesque and charming.
We paid €8 to climb up the belfry and the views were amazing from the top. The climb was a bit of a work out but well worth it.
There are lots of bars and restaurants to sit and take in the views and watch the world go by.

Having arrived on P and O's Pride of York in the morning we managed to check in early to our hotel and go exploring. Without planning it we ended up in the centre and I went mad with the camera! It's a lovely place to visit and the historic buildings make for really interesting photos. Beware the mid day winter sun though, this can make photos quite difficult.

The next day we also headed into the centre after dark and it was even better. Nice place to wander around and use as a base to ensure you don't get lost.

The centre is very compact and everywhere is within walking distance, but beware the cyclists who ride everywhere, across pedestrian squares, road the wrong way, pavements not using hand signals, AND AT SPEED!
You will need a guide and a map and I would recommend a trip on the tourist bus that leaves from the Market Square on the first day.
