Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

We visited Bruges on the 28th-30th December and must say is one of the most beautiful romantic cities i have visited. All lit up with christmas lights, the very pretty ice rink and the christmas markets, horse & carriages trotting down the small cobbled streets, friendly people, choclate, beer, lovely food and did not find it that expensive to eat and drink, even in the Main square.
If going in December the snow & ice sculpture festival by the main train station is worth a visit, amazing sculptures made of ice and at -6 dgerees take your gloves as even though we were wrapped up still was a bit chilly, this was priced at €11
as the weather was dry while we were there we just walked the streets stopping at anything that took our interest definately a city you want to get lost and you will find some little gems along the way.
only down fall is If you are going just for the christmas markets i was not that impressed there are 2 christmas markets, all the stalls consist of mainly food and hats, ive heard that cologne is better for their christmas makets and i thought that the christmas markets in winchester back home better for little christmassy things!
we had an amazing trip to Bruges and would go back tomorrow!

Beautiful, medieval, historic center, with a skating rink and Christmas market. The architecture and chocolates were the highlights!

Bruge is a wonderful town close to Oostende Belgium, we were there just after Christmas 2012, the town was hoping with Christmas markets! We were only able to stay a day but next will stay longer. The town square has a large cathedral as do most in Europe! Very pretty buildings and cobbled stone streets. We tried to get into the "best hot chocolate"place in town but it was so crowded and small. The canals are very picturesque. Only problem is parking!! Park outside town and walk in.

Pleasant atmosphere , but very crowded overall. Recommend to spend the night as in the evening all the day trippers disappeared. Also train journey from Brussels and back was extremely full and lots ..and lots of people in both directions had to stand in the aisles

Thank geegas

This area is so nice to walk around in. There are several lovely buildings like the Stadhuis and the famous Unesco Wold Heritage site belfy. There are some nice little shops and great cafes as well.
