Dropped off from the coach near the Bus Station, in this area there are a lot of cafes with outside seating. For a cheap beer, the bar next to the Park Hotel is very reasonable for prices in this area, the further you walk towards the main square the prices go up considerably.
Walking from the Bus Station towards the main square it is much the same as any other town/city with all the usual retail outlets and very expensive. The old buildings have been spoilt with modern signage. You do then get into the main square some beautiful old building but not a good time of the year to view, the Ice Rink had been constructed in the square making some of the views.
To get the beauty of this city is a must on the canal cruise, this is really the only way to really to see what Bruges is like, which you could never do it on foot. The cruise costs 7.20 Euro and last for an hour. With a full commentary in several languages, you can then walk back and see anything you have picked out on the cruise.
No disabled access for river cruises.
Looking at Bruges alongside Ghent, we would choose Ghent anytime it has far more unspoilt history and culture.
