Owner description: The historic center of Bruges has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 thanks to its status as one of the commercial and cultural capitals of Europe and its enduring Gothic architecture. The Belgian city center is cited as a great example of a medieval historic settlement, even while it has evolved over the years.

“Not what it is made out to be”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Dropped off from the coach near the Bus Station, in this area there are a lot of cafes with outside seating. For a cheap beer, the bar next to the Park Hotel is very reasonable for prices in this area, the further you walk towards the main square the prices go up considerably.

Walking from the Bus Station towards the main square it is much the same as any other town/city with all the usual retail outlets and very expensive. The old buildings have been spoilt with modern signage. You do then get into the main square some beautiful old building but not a good time of the year to view, the Ice Rink had been constructed in the square making some of the views.

To get the beauty of this city is a must on the canal cruise, this is really the only way to really to see what Bruges is like, which you could never do it on foot. The cruise costs 7.20 Euro and last for an hour. With a full commentary in several languages, you can then walk back and see anything you have picked out on the cruise.

No disabled access for river cruises.

Looking at Bruges alongside Ghent, we would choose Ghent anytime it has far more unspoilt history and culture.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

An ideal place to visit just before the "Christmas Season" fully begins. The lights and the decorations are up - but the crowds have not descended.

“A Charming delight”

Character, charm and variety. Walk, horse drawn cab or canal boats. Many delightful eateries and specialist shops for tapestries, lace and chocolates.
