Description: For over 40 years, the Sint-Joris restaurant, on the Markt in Bruges, has been run by the same family. In 2013, the interior of the historic house was completely stripped and rebuilt. Behind the typical facade and underneath the balks of the 13th century, you will discover a modern interior with lots of wood and warm tints which create a cosy atmosphere. Well-known, traditional Belgian food is prepared in the artisanal kitchen, as Flemish beefstew, steaks, fisherman's dish, mummy's meatballs, shrimps croquets, chicken waterzooi,... The restaurant also serves a daily lunch and a good variety of vegetarian dishes. Only first quality regional products are used in the kitchen, like local natural meat. Sint-Joris specialises in cooking for groups and has room for up to 110 people. Discover an honest and delicious restaurant in the centre of Bruges, a world heritage city.

“On the Markt and aimed at tourists”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

Our meal at Sint Joris was quite lovely. We decided to eat on the square knowing the restaurants are overpriced tourist traps but we did want to people watch and enjoy the unique atmosphere. I enjoyed a lovely chicory and ham gratin while DH had the special, salmon wraps. Our son enjoyed chicken nuggets. The food was very good and nicely presented. The service was friendly and attentive. The reason the restaurant did not get a higher rating - the waiter reminded us we could add a tip to the final bill.

“Modern met historie”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

In this modern restaurant you can see historic elements in the ceiling from the 13th century.

Plus a modern stair-lift to the first floor for young and old physically limited. That's rather unique

Pleasant hostess.

Menu not spectacular. But you can eat mussels, meat and vegetarian. Good Belgian beer.

“Touristy, but good value.”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

This is located in the main market square, the obvious tourist trap in Bruges- amongst many other similar looking restaurants. However, we were seated very promptly and served efficiently and politely. Our meals were a very good size and beautifully presented. We had the Flemish stew and a fish dish in white wine and chicory sauce, with starters of a very tasty tomato and meatball soup, and lovely cheese croquets . The waiter also had an endearing ability to look very impressed with whatever you ordered. Our drinks were delivered in good time and also delicious- a pear juice and a local draught beer. Just one gripe, that loses this a star, is that they do not serve tap water with meals (even if you order other drinks too). On a hot day we had to resort to the rather steep bottled water. Nice outdoor ambiance, though, and came way feeling well fed.

“Lovely meal in the best location in Brugge”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

I contacted several restaurants in Brugge a fw months ago as I was planning a reunion at the end of May with some old school friends and I was looking for somewhere really central for a celebratory lunch. Of all the restaurants I wrote to, by far the most pleasant, personal and prompt reply came from Enid at Sint Joris. We duly booked a table! The location is perfect. It couldn't be more central, as it is right on the Markt Square. The staff made us very welcome and we all enjoyed our meals. we wanted to catch up and chat for hours and at no point did we feel under any pressure too leave. It was a wonderfully, relaxing occasion.

On the food front, everything was well-cooked and nicely presented, and by Brugge standards, not exorbitant either! On a non-food related topic, the toilets were beautiful too - spotlessly clean and elegantly decorated, as is the interior of the restaurant. I definitely recommend Sint Joris, and would love to return on my next trip to that most beautiful of cities. Dankie!

“Friendly service, lovely meal, great location.”
Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

Despite my aversion to places with loud signs on main squares, we tried Sint Joris because our guide book said the locals used it. I had Moules Provençal, my spouse had fish of the day. Both excellent and good value considering the location and view from the window. Beautiful decor inside and exceptionally helpful, friendly service.
