Had another trip to Cambrinus last week and this time we were lucky to get a table without booking (not advisable by the way).

Service was its usual brisk efficient self and despite it being very crowded we had a very enjoyable meal. Mine was the chicken with mushrooms in a Gulden Draak sauce. Delicious.

The only drawback of the place is its so damn popular. I've never seen it less than packed but when in Bruges, it should be on everybody's list to visit.

We ate here on our first evening in Bruges and it got the stay off to an excellent start. Staff were very helpful in helping us to choose our beers and the food was an excellent (and hearty) accompaniment to our drinking.

As others have said it is definitely a good idea to book, I had emailed the week before and got a response within a couple of hours - all very easy.

If you are looking for a quiet, romantic spot and to indulge in food to remember, then this place is not for you. However, if you want to sample one of the largest selections of Belgian beer, accompanied by large portions of good food, then make sure you book a table or arrive early. Cambrinus is always busy and its beer catalogue is the size of a mini encyclopedia, which makes selection a bit intimidating. But fear not! To save time (and avoid annoying the staff who want your order asap) you can either order your favourite one (which is most likely to be available) or simply choose one you have never tried before. Belgian beer is so good that you are likely to like it anyway!

My wife and I have made several trips to Bruges over the last decade and as a result have experienced dozens of the restaurants in the city. On our latest trip, wanting to try somewhere new, we chose the Bierbrasserie Cambrinus as the receptionist at the hotel we were staying at said that it her favourite restaurant in the whole city. It turned out to be a great recommendation and in fact the restaurant is so popular that we were unable to book a table at the first attempt and had to wait until the last night of our trip before we could get in.

It was well worth the wait. The Cambrinus is a charming, typically Flemish bistro, serving delicious and substantial food at very reasonable (by Bruges standards) prices, a fantastic selection of beer and friendly service in an informal and convivial atmosphere.

Despite the restaurant being pretty busy, we were quickly shown to a very comfortable window table and served drinks (from a choice of about 400 different beers!) whilst we looked at the menu. Contrary to what a couple of reviewers have said previously, the staff were very friendly and we not rushed or put under any pressure to order our food quickly.

We ordered delicious starters (my wife is still enthusing about her oven cooked scallops a week later!) and two very tasty and filling main courses. I choose the flemish carbonades with “Gulden Draak” Beer, and apple sauce and my wife had a sirloin steak with mushroom sauce. Both were served with the usual gigantic portion of "frites".
Both dishes were well cooked and presented, extremely flavoursome and the portions very generous.
By the time we'd eaten all this delicious food and replenished our beers from the huge selection, we were sadly to full to even consider sampling the desert menu.
The whole meal, including drinks and tip came to just 80 euros, which I thought was remarkably good value considering the quality/quantity of the food and the great atmosphere and service.

This was one of the best of many meals we have eaten out in Bruges over the years and although you probably need to book ahead, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Cambrinus has one of the best Belgian beer (bottled) selections in Bruges. The food was excellent and the service was quite ok despite the "rushing" waiters being quite distant at times.

We had a hare in plum sauce and pheasant in sour cream sauce to eat. Both dishes were perfectly cooked with nice garnishing twists. No complaints about the quality or value.
The beer recommended by the bartender was absolutely spot on.

Between 17:00 and 21:30 it is impossible to find a table inside, so reserve it in advance. The place is very busy most of the time but still feels incredibly cozy.

Highly recommended for Belgian beer and hearty food enthusiasts.
