Owner description: Belgium is famous for its frites—and the Friet Museum gives visitors a chance to sample fried potatoes and various complementary sauces, as well as typical Belgian dishes such as meat balls and beef stew. Digest a bit of learning and history along with your food at this educational spot, housed in a building that dates back to the 14th century.

“Fries Museum, not amusement park.”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

If you show up here thinking it's an amusement park with Fries, you are going to have a bad time. Yes, It's a self guided museum full of facts and information. Lots of information on the history of the Potato. Yes, the language boards are in random orders and never the same location for each language but it's in 3 different languages, but it's not hard to spot your mother tongue. There are little exhibits and such nothing super elabourate. It was an easy way to spend an hour or so, though I don't think it's so interesting for kids, and those we saw seemed to be rather bored and running around trying to touch things. The fries located in the basement were better than alot of the street/resturant ones that we tried however I was still a little disappointed. Also for 6€ they could easily include a sampler size fries instead of the 0.40€ discount coupon. After all beer and wine tours manage to included samplers in the price and most are even guided.

“Strange but interesting!”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

We visited this museum on a rainy day against my wishes, my partner was very keen however so we went in. I had very, and I mean very low expectations of what I would find in a museum dedicated to frites. I was pleasantly surprised, it is actually interesting. I now know why Americans call them French Fries, how Belgians invented Frites, the history of the potato and more.

This is not to everybody's taste but as a quirky way to spend a couple of hours I would recommend this museum.

“You say Potato, I say wow!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

I visited this museum wife my wife (Donna) in December 2012. I have to say it was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. The 40,000 year old story of Potato cultivation seemed to pass in the blink of an eye.
Forget everything you know about this humble tuber because you're in for the ride of you're life!

“Everything you could want to know about potatoes”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

This is a quirky but entertaining museum with interesting displays about the history and development of the potato. Well worth the combined ticket with Choco-story and the Museum of Domestic Lighting.

“Not necessary”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Really, just go here if outside it's raining cats and dogs and you have already drunk enough beer. Or if you're really really interested in potatoes and their history. I mean, the material inside is not enough to raise up excitement.. First floor full of posters on the walls (and that's it) and second floor with some nice old machineries for farming and frying. Nothing more, nothing fancy.
Furthermore, tasting is not included in the price and all you get is a 40 cents discount to buy some average french fries from the "never smiling" girl in the without-windows basement.
