Owner description: Belgium is famous for its frites—and the Friet Museum gives visitors a chance to sample fried potatoes and various complementary sauces, as well as typical Belgian dishes such as meat balls and beef stew. Digest a bit of learning and history along with your food at this educational spot, housed in a building that dates back to the 14th century.

More information about this carbohydrate than you would possibly wish to know about, but it's my taste buds that win after the museum, head over to order some friets (fries) along with one of delicious burgers and great local beer with very friendly, fairly quick service. Potatoes are fried in grass-fed beef tallow for flavor, cooked twice to insure a crunchy surface with a soft fuffy interior fry. Sprinkle with sea salt while still hot. No need for any sauces.

We wouldn’t normally have bothered with this, but it was effectively free with the Bruges city card. You get to see some different, and odd-looking, varieties of potato, a history of the people that first cultivated it. There’s a frieterie in the cellar where you can sample the product, but personally, I'd prefer a proper chip any day.

Worth an hour or two if you run out of things to do, or on a rainy day.

The museum is interesting if you like potatoes.

They also have a food part at the end where you can pay for some chips that they make there. We personally found that their chips that they make were nothing special and not worth trying. After we sampled some at the museum and then after sampling some at restaurants later,we realized you can get better tasting chips at the restaurants. The restaurant chips are much nicer and worth the money, where as the ones they make there at the friet museum we thought they wont that good but that's our opinion.

The museum was a lot of fun. My boys (ages 15,10,7) said it was their favorite thing we did in Bruges. They loved seeing all the fun fry decorations and learning about how french fries came to be. There is a cute area where they could pretend to make fries. They loved that. They also loved the part where you get to eat them! It was a fun time and I would recommend it to anyone.
