“Tourist Trap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

My husband, daughter and I had dinner at Bistro Den Huzaar this evening, our second dinner in Brugge. The first was absolutely excellent as was lunch and breakfast and after reading all the wonderful comments on Trip Advisor we we're expecting another great meal. Much to our disappointment this restaurant did not deliver. The scampi was tough and the pasta was limp and over cooked with a basic uninspired garlic sauce. The coc a vin was thrown on your plate at the table and served with frozen deep fried French fries and you were on your own to reach across the table and serve yourself your remaining portion. After paying our check, the owner was so anxious to clear the table thy my husband couldn't get out of his seat until she was finished. I would suggest the owners of Bistro Den Huzaar have dinner at Diligence as an excellent example of great food and service.

“One night in Brugges, couldn't have chosen better from Trip Advisor's favourites”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

Where to start? One night in Brugges and so many restaurants and cuisines to choose from. Decided on local dishes so chose this restaurant from all of those recommended on TA. Really lucky in that even in June they were so full we should have booked, but were early enough to get their last table for two. The food was heaven, local scallops and mussels in a bouillabaisse sauce to start - toe curling!! Main was slow cooked pigs cheeks with wild cherries in red wine sauce - vegetables to perfection and a Cotes du Rhone to die for. Not usually one for dessert, but as I was on a serious role by now I went for the home made chocolate mousse - I think I died and went to heaven at this point, but managed to round it off with a coffee and Armagnac so job done. I'll be lying down with a big smile on my face for at least a week! Seriously, though, if you can get in you won't be disappointed.

“Very good for traditional Flemish cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

This small bistrot is a lovely little place for traditional Flemish cuisine. Good atmosphere and friendly, efficient service.
We particularly liked the menu for 34 Euros which is good value for money. I had the asparagus with salmon (delicious), the lamb roast (heavenly) and the crème brûlée which could have been better, tasted a little of the ethyl alcohol used.

As the restaurant is very popular, it is advisable to book a table in advance.

“Very good restaurant in an ideal location.”

I ate here and found the food to be very good indeed. The wine was a bit under par but apart from that I was impressed. Reasonable value and a great location off the town square.

“Still Good, Reasonable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

We just were looking for a light, reasonable meal and this was perfect. This was a recommendation from the B & B Huis Koning. (Lynn gives great recommendations.) It is very wise to get a reservation for dinner anyway. (In season, it is good to get a dinner reservation almost anywhere. The magic hour seems to be between 7-8 PM.) The flight of beer was great. Our meal (with beer) was about $65.
