“Absolutely fantastic! Wish we had time to go again.”
Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is fantastic. Great homely, traditional atmosphere with brilliant food.

We were three couples and a baby and were running very late for our booking but we called ahead and they said it wasn't a problem. There was plenty of space for our buggy and we had a nice big round table so everyone could interact.

For starters we had the shrimp croquettes and French onion soup. Croquettes were nice and the French onion soup was amazing. We then ordered the lamb casserole, rabbit, pork casserole and pasta parcels. All were delicious and very generous servings. For dessert we had the swan, ice cream and the apple pie. All were yummy but the apple pie was a stand out. Absolutely scrumptious!

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It's brilliant and most definitely worth visiting. Our only negative is that it wasn't open for lunch the next day before we had to leave!

“Delicious food and plenty of it!”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Went for a romantic dinner on a very cold night in February. We received a warm, friendly welcome and enjoyed excellent cooking - we went for the 52 Euro set meal which included an aperitif and 1L of wine with a 3 course meal plus a quite a sizeable slab of rabbit pate as an amuse bouche. Make sure you are hungry when you go!

“Quirky, atmospheric, with delicious local food!”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

What a find! The food here is delicious and very Belgian - I had the Bruges Casserole (which consisted of slow roasted pork cheek, cherries, and local beer) and my husband had the country style chicken pie. Both were lovingly made - my casserole came in a ceramic pot sealed with a layer of pie crust! The portions were generous, including copious sides, and free bread. The service was friendly and attentive, and there were lots of choices for desert. We got the Bruges Swan which I think there are pictures of above - it's made of vanilla ice cream, on a meringue base, with a chantilly cream tail sprinkled with almonds, wings made of pears, a pastry neck, and chocolate sauce. So good! And all very reasonably priced as well!

Best of all was the atmosphere - there was plenty of quirky taxidermy and antiques along the walls including the eponymous Hussar. A great experience and a real local gem. Highly, highly recommended.

“Absolutely amazing!”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

I'd read about this restaurant on Trip Adviser and many of the reviews said to book. We tried on the first night in Bruges to 'drop in' and were unsuccessful in getting a table, but had the foresight to book for the next night. We were not disappointed, the service was impeccable, the food stunning and the price superb. We went for the suggestion menu and had a delicious goose liver terrine and scampi (prawn) and basil pasta, followed by venison fillets and pork cheek casserole; superbly done with a pastry crust round the casserole dish. The venison and casserole wore the most splendid, tasty gravy and excellent accompaniments. Dessert compromised of a huge crème bulee and Belgian chocolate mousse. All in all an excellent restaurant, with albeit a limited, but fabulous menu. If you go to Bruges, go here, but be sure to book in advance!
