Recommended length of visit: <1 hour
Owner description: Windmills have graced Bruges' ramparts ever since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century. Today four specimens are left on Kruisvest. Sint-Janshuis Mill - anno 1770- is still in its original spot and still grinding grain just like its neighbour Koelewei Mill. The Sint-Janshuismolen is the only mill you can visit. OPEN: 01/04-30/09

“Picturesque area”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

Pretty far from the other interest points, but if you have enough time, worth to visit them.Unfortunately, when I tried to visit they were closed and there wasn't any opening hours timetable. The area is wonderful,a lot of green grass,a channel strolled by different kind of ships...
Not far from them you can find Kruisepoort, one of the old town gates.

“Well worth visiting, and a fascinating quieter part of town”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

The 4 well restored/rebuilt wooden stilt windmills are the last of dozens that used to provide the citys flour. Each is different and they sit picturesquely on the outer ring canal to the east, in an attractive park, each on its own mound. Not open in January, but still interesting, and in summer there are working days. You can climb the steep wooden stairs to one. The canal here is also interesting with modern lift bridges and huge container vessels passing. Walk back into town along the beautiful city canals, or have a beer at the Windmill bar, or excellent Vlissinghe Café bar nearby

“Worth a look”
Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

Chances are you'll have some spare time, even on a day trip to brugge, so take a walk outside the centre, past these windmills, then back next to the canals. If you've never seen a windmill before its a nice novelty, and its a good walk.
They weren't accessible whilst we were there, but they made for nice photos.

“Be prepared to climb”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

The steps up to the entrance of the windmills are very steep and you really need to have a head for heights if you want to go inside to look. Both are still working, although we didn't see the sails turning on either day we visited the area

“Windmills with different design”
Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

Nice walk along the outer ring along the water but you could not access any of the windmills. Three of the four had locked fences. The fourth was locked. No information on operation. They operate differently from those in the netherland but disappointing not to have some type of documentation. If you walk from the old town, chose your roads carefully if you are walking
