Went to Malesherbes on the back of such positive reviews on Tripadvisor and took the precaution of booking a table a month in advance..The restaurant is centrally located on a side street just off one of the main drags. It's small but pleasant. The food was very good and authentic and suppose reasonably priced by Bruges standards..! Had carpaccio of salmon for starters and mains of sea bass and coq au vin. Service also fine and friendly. The gripe that I have and I think that you have to take things as you find them when reviewing somewhere is the fact that despite booking a month previously we were, upon our arrival, shown immediately upstairs to a room that was clearly not used all the time with one other couple eating there. Zero atmosphere and in total contrast to the hustle and bustle of downstairs. I can only think we were consigned to the proverbial "gulags" in favour of locals. I would be very surprised if the downstairs was completely booked and if it was likely would have been stated when I booked. For this reason we came away quite disgruntled at what would have been a lovely evening and with a bit of a sour taste in our mouths though fortunately not from the food!
