I’m beginning to think that the surly attitude of many of the waiters in Bruges is part of the local shtick put on for the tourists, and Le Grand Café reinforces that thought. Located in the Markt, the mecca for Bruges tourists, it’s a busy place, expensive of course, but the food is good. Let’s face it, if you want an outside table in the Markt, which is packed with tourists, and all you have is coffee, then you’re not really there for the coffee, but for the place. There are plenty of real coffee shops in the side streets, costing a lot less. Perhaps that’s what makes the waiters surly.
