“Delicious!”

De Schaar is one of my favorites! I try to eat there each visit to Brugge, sometimes more than once if I'm lucky. It is good for a romantic dinner for two, for a relaxing meal, or for a group. If you can, sit inside and watch the cook at the grill or outside by the canal. A very friendly couple run the resturant and provide locals and tourists alike a great meal and great atmosphere.

“One of the best food we ate in Belgium.”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

The service run by the family is super, and the food (all meat and fish are grilled in front of you and the vegetables are fresh from the market) is yummi! Try the frog legs...they are delicious!

“Outstanding Belgian Food”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

My wife and I went there for dinner and it was an outstanding experience. This is a neighborhood restaurant, not a tourist trap, which is exactly what we wanted. Small and cozy, with a wood burning fire (where the food is grilled) in the middle of the restaurant; it was the chef, waitress and the guests. We had an appetizer with white asparagus that showed how delicate and delicious Belgian food can be. The main courses of salmon and a gigantic T-Bone steak with finely prepared sauces one of which was a delectable Bernaise. Good selection of Belgian beers and wines. Impeccable service. We look forward to a return visit!

“Recommended”

A really cosy and welcoming restaurant, only about 10 mins walk from the centre of town.

Most dishes are cooked on the open grill, and the menu is varied and priced about the same as comparable restaurants in Bruges. We had the rack of lamb which was absolutely delicious. House wine also to be recommended.

We have been to the restaurant several times (its great in the depth of winter when the open grill fire makes it seem really warm and toasty!) and have never been disappointed. It is not a unique experience, but consistently good and is definitely worth a visit. Worth booking in advance, particularly if at a weekend

“Wonderful find”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

This little place was recommended by our hotel as a place the locals visit and we know why. It was wonderful. We had a wonderful meal and great wine. It was an open grill and fun to watch the chef prepare our meal. Save room for the dessert as it was magnificent.
