Log fire, great food, no tourists. Nice quiet canal-side location. A smile or two from our server would have made us feel more welcome however.

Freshly cooked over open fire. Excellent , discreet and friendly service. Not the cheapest, but far from expensive. Well worth it.

Our last day in Bruges was wet, nasty, cold. We walked in pouring rain and were soaked to the skin when we got back to our B and B. We decided to eat somewhere nearby. The closest recommended place was Bistro de Schaar.....what luck!!! We did call for a reservation and it was a good thing because on a cold, rainy, Sunday night the place was full. We arrived at 7:30 to take the last table and I think everyone there stayed past closing at 10:00. It was wonderful...warm, with a fireplace and the chef cooked at the grill right there. My sister had Australian rib eye and I had duck with raspberry sauce. Perfect! They brought us a little appetizer on the house which was a pork salad and salmon mousse on a regular saltine cracker. That mousse just melted in my mouth. For dessert we had a fresh fig thing that was grilled and maybe had some sort of sauce....can't remember exactly how it was prepared but it was heavenly. Good wine with the meal, not rushed, service was pleasant, best meal in Bruges. Go there, sit and relax, eat well!!! Total bill with dessert and wine (bottle of red) 68.00 Euro.
