“Very quiet and pleasant place to stay”

I asked for a quiet room - and got it. Stayed 5 night for business and had to work a bit from the room as well. The minibar was very poorly equipped which means you can use it as your litle fridge and stock it with your own goods. The hotel is modes in size and extremely pleasant to stay at, the small garden (with outdoor service) is a gem for a town hotel. Nearby old-convent style Begijnhof is a sight - to be seen and savoured. Breakfast has a good choice of items. Only drawbak is the lack of a proper restaurant at night (you need to go out) because the barmenu is restricted to littel nibbles 'to share'.

In summer it is great to sit outside in the garden for drinks and some snacks. For lunch they have only a very limited selection. But, they offer a very good choice of wines, beers and gin tonics. Their claim of having the most beautiful terrace of Leuven is probably true and the biggest plus is that it is usually very quiet and neighboring the incredibly beautiful Begeinhof.

The designers of the Begijnhof Hotel had done a fantastic job of preserving the beautiful historic building and grounds while meeting modern expectations.

The hotel is situated adjacent to the Groot Begijnhof, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is now owned by KU Leuven and used to house visitors and students. It was originally a beguinage (a community of semi-religious women) and is a car-free oasis of cobblestone streets, brick houses, trees, canals, etc. (see photos). The hotel blends beautifully with its settings and has a lovely garden (see photo taken from our room, with church in the background).

The staff is good. The wifi is fast and reliable. Our room had a small refrigerator, had a lovely garden view, and was spacious by European standards (although medium by American standards). The beds are comfortable. Our room had a fancy coffee machine. The rooms have air conditioning, which is not universal in Belgium and Netherlands. There were a reasonable number of electrical outlets. The hotel is immaculately clean.

The breakfast is excellent, offering full continental breakfast with wonderful croissants and elaborate coffee machine, eggs, bacon, fruit, vegetables, cheese and cold-cuts, bread, etc.

We visited Leuven during christmas time. We had very high expectations of the atmosphere of the hotel in the holiday season. The quality of the room was okay though there was quite some noise from our neighbours. Breakfast was below average and the staff looked tired after a busy week. Probably more suitable for business travellers than 'romantic honymooners'

Limited menu, but quality food and perfect service. We enjoyed the nice Xmas decorations and the warm atmosphere.
