We stayed three nights in this lovely hotel located in the city center. Restaurants in a large variety are close by. We had a (a bit more expensive) so called charming room, it was really charming. If you come by car parking seems somewhat complicated (due to the location), but with the assistance of the hotel staff this can easily be solved.

We enjoyed this hotel-loved walking down the cobblestone lane, beautiful antique style, comfortable beds and delicious breakfast! All right in the town center-away from the rowdy students but close to the historic sites. lovely!!!

Martin's Klooster hotel is a converted convent in the city center of Leuven. The hotel has an "historic" wing situated in the old convent and new wing adjacent to the convent. The room we stayed in was in the old part of the hotel. The room was very spacious en had some nice period features (wooden beems ceiling, and small leaded windows. The room also featured an fireplace which was (disappointingly) fitted with een electric "fireplace". The room could have done without. The bathroom was had all the essential ameneties and was rather spaciuos as wel. The shower was in the bath, which isn't to my taste, but seeing that we only stayed for 2 nights, it wasn't that big of a problem.
Breakfast was served in a light and very cosy room in the old part of the hotel. It looked out on the inner courtyard. The breakfastbuffet was quit elaborate for an relatively small hotel as this. Large array of cheeses and cold cuts. Several different kinds of bread, buns, and sweets.
The only downside to this hotel (if you can call it that), is that the hotelbar closes at 23.00h, and it has no restaurant. But Leuven has plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes to choose from. And staff is more than willing to assist you in planning your night out.

To sum up this review, Martin's Klooster Hotel is a perfect hotel for a short break in Leuven.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the historic part of the hotel.

We just got back from an (unfortunately only) 1 night stay and we had a great time. We had booked a cosy room and were given an upgrade to a charming room upon arrival. The rooms are large and very clean. Excellent breakfast in a unique decor. We'll be back!

To reach this hotel, you wander down a narrow and winding medieval street. You enter another world through an archway to the past. The sense of history is palpable as you take in the vista of the ancient buildings housing the hotel.

I was allocated a room with a four poster bed over-looking the medieval street, The room itself was relatively large and the capacious bed helped me to secure one of the deepest sleeps I had experienced in a long time. The curtains in the bedroom are all enveloping and super at blotting out even the tiniest scintilla of light.

The next morning was a sublime June day. I collected a selection of cold meats, cheeses and fruit salads from the buffet and sipped a welcoming cup of fresh coffee in the garden of the hotel. It was so relaxing outdoors that I stayed for an hour, enjoying the peace and tranquillity of it all. All in all, I hugely enjopyed my trip into the other world which is Martin's Klooster Hotel. If you want to experience medieval Belgium, you should give serious thought to visiting Leuven and to staying in this unique hotel.

The Martin’s Klooster Hotel is in the heart of the historical centre of Leuven. It stands within easy walking distance of ancient attractions and many restaurants and bars. The hotel is located within a former convent. It is clean, the rooms are spacious and the bed comfortable. The bar area is cosy, peaceful and pleasant. The only problem we had was to find the carpark! The hotel is situated in a cul de sac, so you drive to the hotel front door, you get a sheet of paper with pictures and vague indications of where the carpark is then you drive backwards to the main street and follow instructions....And you arrive at the back of the hotel!

This was a big disappointment. It is billed as a luxury hotel, is a great location and some of the service (breakfast, housekeeping) was great BUT:
Since it gets hot in Belgium during the summer, we chose this hotel in part because the web site said it was luxurious and air conditioned. Unfortunately, despite the temperature having been in the 80's during the week prior to our arrival, they hadn't bothered to service the air conditioning for the summer. We were in a top floor room and it was more than 85 degrees in the room at night on our first night. When we complained the next morning (Saturday), they said they would take care of it. Turns out, no one was available in Leuven to service the air conditioner on Saturdays. Unfortunately no one in the hotel bothered to tell us that it couldn't be fixed or to try to make our life easier (ie move our room, give us a fan, see if there was anything they could do for us). Finally at 10:30 at night, our room was 87 degrees and when I complained again, the gracious night clerk (the only helpful one) moved us to the only available other room which was only 85 degrees-still not comfortable for sleeping. Fortunately, on Sunday the temperature cooled off.
The most astonishing thing was the conversation that we had with the Manager when we checked out. As I tried to give our complaint, he interrupted me and said, "let me tell my side of the story". Several times, we said that we chose the hotel because it had air conditioning and clearly over the weekend, it did not have air conditioning. Over and over he repeated (maybe it was just unfamiliarity with English), in response to our upset, that the Hotel did have air conditioning. We said, well it clearly didn't have it over the weekend, and he kept saying, that it did, it was blowing, it just wasn't blowing cold air! After about 5 minutes of arguing with us that we were wrong, he finally offered a brief apology and offered us an upgrade if we ever stayed at the hotel again.
Also, our second room had a "sewer gas" smell coming out of the sink and sink trap in the bathroom.
As an aside, the air conditioning at the Ibis across the street was working.
Bottom line: a cute teddy bear and bathrobes in the room don't make a hotel a luxury hotel. Air conditioning and service with attention to customer comfort do.
