Her you are in the center of the university town. The library hosts a treasure of books and the bell tower has a 'beiaard' where concerts are given during the summerhollidays.

“Don't miss this building”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

While many visitors to Leuven will see the Stadhuis and Sint Pieters Kerk, they might miss this building because it is off the main street on an open plaza. The university library was burned by the Germans in World War I and the academic world was so outraged they began raising money to build a replacement (the current building) which was built in the 1920s. Many of the donors, but not all, were American colleges and high schools and their names are inscribed on the building. If you are an American, it is interesting to see that Ohio is particularly well-represented.

“underrated but superb venue”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

This library has inscribed all the American high schools and Universities that sent money to rebuild this mighty fortress of learning. It houses a lovely reading room and many changing art shows. I was lucky to see one dealing with Belgium's deaf artists that was simply fantastic. Best of all it is free! Just present oneself to the kiosk on the street level, and ask for a free pass. The visit to the bell tower needs to be scheduled and only for a minimum of 10, however on one's own, one can view the gorgeous carved wooden attire of the reading room and admire the stone modern art work in the lobby. A mixture of Gothic and byzantine and even Romanesque elements abound....It is truly a missed treasure in Leuven.
