“fresh food and original ....... but high prices ....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Very cosy resto and friendly people. The menu is modern (old flemish recipes in a new modern dress). Beautiful outdoor sitting (veranda)
The prices ares a little high (also the wine). The owner have is own wine-cellar.
Resto known for his upper-class clientel but beautiful, good food en friendly staff

“Classical brasserie, very well prepared”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

We visit this place several times a year and we have never been disappointed. This restaurant serves classical brasserie dishes, even a few local "flemish" preparations from great-grandma's time. As far as we have experienced, always cooked to perfection. Not where you'd go for a cheap and quick meal, but not necessarily expensive either -- it all depends on what you want to spend.

Patyntje probably has the best "french" fries in and around Ghent -- whatever some comments may say; you should try them to accompany your kidneys, steak or baked fish. There's a fine wine list, with what seems to be an interesting price/quality ratio; the wines by the glass are fine as well.

The service is competent and friendly, the location near the Lys is superb. There's usually a few parking places left if you come by car (but then the car park is ample enough).

“casual but good food. Room for improvement.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

Once or twice a year we go to Patyntje. Exquisit location, near the river "Leie". Tonight we ordered the "stoverij" and the "Kabeljauw Patyntje". Excellent presentation, good food, well prepared, nicely served. Slight flaw though: for the desert, the "dame blanche" came first, and only when it was consumed, the other order (Irish coffee) came too late.
As one can see, there's always room for improvement. But overall we like it there, and we'll be back!

“bad value for money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We were at Patyntje with a group of five. Patyntje serves so called Brasserie kitchen. The food is OK but far from excellent and has surely its flaws, given the price you pay. For example, I had "Roggevleugel", a fish dish, which came with potatoes. The potatoes were, however, not prepared freshly but reheated. I expect more from a dish that costs 23 Euro (30 Dollar). The service was rather unfriendly. First, it was impossible to split the bill in two parts, which was important because some of us were on a business trip and could reclaim the money from their company whereas others were not. When they finally agreed to split the bill, they made a mistake and refused to correct this. We never had that bill-splitting problem before in Ghent, although most restaurants prefer one bill per table. All in all not the experience one hopes for in a restaurant of that price range. There are lots of restaurants in Ghent where you can get the same dishes in a comparable quality at more reasonable prices and with better service

“Beautiful setting, good food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

The staff is very friendly, the food is excellent, the restaurant itself is very beautiful and in the summer it is to die for... wine in one hand, olive in the other...the sun in your face, heaven!
