“Lobster!”

A truely fun experience with great food, served by great people. Be sure to make a reservation for this fun venue when you are in Ghent. Although going as a couple it would be a great place to take of group for a good time.

“An experience!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Well if you're not from around Ghent, you need to know everything goes on its own pace. Take a moment to look around and see the interior which is... interesting! :-)
We had lobster served in 3 ways and I must say it was delicious and the recommended whine (they haven't even recommended the most expensive one) fit the lobsters.

Maybe you have to wait a while but hey... you need to have time. Especially if you're not a Gentenaar, you will know your place.

p.s. make sure you make a reservation. The place is almost fully booked every day.

“Mixed feelings in The House of Eliott”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We find of ourselves that we are regular guests of this restaurant that serves delicious lobster-dishes. You will find an earlier review from me of this restaurant two years ago. Yesterday we went again to the House of Eliott. This time it was a visit with mixed feelings. It already started when we arrived ... We had to wait for 35 minutes before we had our drinks and before someone took our order. We ordered a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and the bottle was already open when it was brought to our table. I think we may except that it is only opened at our table ?
We chose the Carrousel-menu. Nobody asked us if we wanted a 500 gram or 700 gram lobster. We got a 500 gr. instead of the 700 gr. we intended to take. When we made a remark about this, the waiter answered that if the clients say nothing when ordening, they serve 500 grams ????? So its our fault ....
Dishes where again good tonight !!! Appetizers and main dish we liked and appreciated a lot altough we felt we didn't got value for money taking the Carrousel-menu. We really would give the advice to take the market-menu (3 halve lobsters).
For desserts you don't have to chose this restaurant. There are only three (simple) desserts on the card. Finally The house of Eliott has a good but rather expensive wine-card.
Oh yeah, we found only one toilet in the restaurant and we had to wait at it for most of the evening.
All by all a rather critical review this time of a restaurant we will surely visit again in the future. Probably my review was influenced by the lack of attention and service when we arrived. We visited this restaurant during a very busy period and maybe there was not enough staff ??
We will surely try it again at a later date !!!!

“"The Emperor's New Clothes"”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Having been looking forward to dining here due to its No.1 position in the Trip Adviser tables, my wife and I were very disappointed. The ambience was interesting, the food was OK but poor value for money and the service was unbelievably SLOW. We had a good but slightly squashed-in table by a window overlooking the canal, which we certainly seemed to be doing for hours.
Nothing happened for the first 30 minutes until my wife went to the entrance bar and asked for the menu. This duly arrived with a very friendly waiter but it was still some time later that our order was taken.
The food itself, when it eventually arrived, was quite good although the "lobster-six-ways" which is a signature dish, was in fact a whole lobster shell divided into six portions, 4 of which, were filled with lobster meat and 2 with vegetables and herbs. The house white wine was satisfactory and moderately cold.
The whole restaurant, as its namesake suggests, is decorated with a multitude of dresses and other apparel, representing the 1920’s and the dressmaking business of BBC TV series.
Sadly for us this was a rather underwhelming evening and when compared with several other Ghent restaurants that we visited, I would award a wooden spoon.

“One of a Kind”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

We loved this place, it is quite small, with a downstairs that opens on to an outside terrace by the canal, we had booked inside, for which I was glad as it was a bit chilly that evening. The decor is very eclectic, lots of different collections going on, Dior, 1920, I think quirky summs it up. The staff are wonderful and enthusiastic. We sat down and were handed menus, only in Dutch, but needn't have worried as the whole was beautifully explained. I had scallops to start and my husband Beef Carpaccio. They specialise in Lobster, so lobster is what we ordered. I did feel a bit of a pank watching them being scooped out of their tank. We both choose a whole Lobster, cut up and cooked in six different sauces, this was the best Lobster we have ever eaten. Puddings were good too. The whole experience was an evening to be treasured, do go.
