Excellent food and an even better service.
Certainly worth paying a visit when you're in Ghent.

We chose The House of Eliott because it was number one restaurant on Tripadvisor.... plus we looked at the video and photos on the restaurants website and it looked so unusual and fascinating.

Dress was casual/smart casual and its not really a restaurant for children.

We had previously read the Tripadvisor reviews so we expected a slow service but we like that when we're dining in a good restaurant. We were on a break in Ghent for a few days so we were in no rush whatsoever. We just doubled our drink orders so that we didn't have to wait for a refill every time. We booked the table for 8pm and left just after midnight! We were partly responsible for the long stay - we purposely avoided the waiters eye between courses so they knew that we were not in a hurry... plus we spent a lot of time talking and looking around at everything in the restaurant.

The menu is in dutch only so a waiter translated it to us. We forgot most of it by the time he got to the end but we were lucky to have a multi lingual couple from Ghent on the next table who helped us out. We only ordered two courses as we had expected a large main course.... so we skipped starters. I ordered the house special which is a whole lobster cooked six different ways and my wife ordered the monkfish. The desserts were equally as good. (I've hopefully attached the photos)

The food was excellent and my wife said that it was the best meal that she had ever had. The secret to both main dishes were the fantastic sauces. I would say that the food is definitely Michelin standard.

We tried to book a week before we we due to stay in Ghent and were very lucky that they had just received a cancellation so we would advise to book early.

The cost for two courses plus drinks for two was £110 but bear in mind that we did have two of the expensive dishes from the menu (both mine!)

We're unlikely to go to Ghent again as there are so many other places that we want to visit. However, this is an excellent restaurant and we could not fault any single aspect.

visited this restaurant because my girlfriend loves lobster. We were offered a nice table with river and castle view. The entire restaurant is like a museum, the owner being particularly fond of Coco Channel and her era. We took the Lobster Caroussel, six different preparation of lobster: delicious! We als had (starter): asparagus with salmon and king crab, both prepared to perfection. Bill was reasonable, considering we als had a nice champagne (what else with lobster). Upon leaving, we were presented a local digestive and had a nice chat with the owner. We'll be back!

A very special place. A bit like walking into someone elses universe with Freddie's artistic decor and love of antiques. A splendid host in every way, Freddie in his leather apron makes every experience at House of Eliott outstanding. The food is mouthwatering (must love lobster) and prepared in the most creative of ways. Definitely try to get there during one of those rare clear belgium nights and have a cocktail on the deck overlooking the water and wave to the tourists as they pass by in boats. Always on our top list for special occasions this place should not be missed!
