“Simply great”
Reviewed December 20, 2011

Great experience, makes me wonder about my other excellent reviews. Easy, early check-in without questions or problems. Staff was great throughout, from helping log onto the FREE WI-FI onto my IPod to giving us a vacuum at 0800 to suck the air out of our space bags. Beautiful, clean hotel in the best part of town. Step outside and it looks like a postcard. Room was quite large, two double beds, nice deep and long tube. Did I say FREE WIFI!!! May not sound like much, but was greatly appreciated when other hotels on this trip wanted 20 Euros a night. Toll free calls from the room were also free. Great service, great facility, even a better location. If you get a chance to stay here, you will not be disappointed..

Room Tip: Booked on Priceline for $70 a night

Excellent hotel. Very modern construction. They have redone the whole interior of a "historic" building. They have made it ultra modern and spacious.

When we checked in, their systems were down so they could not create a key for us. This meant we had to rely on staff to let us into our rooms. Bit of a pain but however staff were very helpful and friendly.

Rooms were excellent. Spacious, clean and very modern. Excellent bathrooms.
Everything you would expect from a Marriot!

In terms of location, this is probably the best location you could get in Ghent. You step out of your hotel and you are awestruck by the canal and surroundings. Simply amazing!

I totally agree with the two other reviews. This hotel is perfectly located in the historical part of the city. But nevertheless with perfect public transportation options right outside the hotel and within short walking distance of the main attractions and shopping area's. Ghent is definitely one of the places to visit when in Belgium. Antwerp, Bruges and Brussels are all within a one hour train ride from Ghent.

Excellent hotel in an excellent location. Friendly staff, lovely rooms, very quiet. Great bar and breakfast selection. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Just can't fault it. We had adjoining rooms which was great fun.

Room Tip: I think our room was at the back. Incredibly quiet!

ok seriously, i cant get that statement out of my head. its my first stay at the marriott and probably my last.
my fellow female colleague and i stayed here last week and we had 3 suitcases each-they had a small revolving door and i got stuck in it trying to get my bags into the hotel! when we finally got in, i asked them where their porter was to help my colleague with her bags and they told me that he had the day off, i didnt even know what to respond so i asked them if perhaps they should get another porter nwhen one of them is off, seriously, i was gobsmacked. they apologised and said they didnt see us arrive-well, of course the two girls didnt see us arrive because they are not porters!! after this initial hiccup, i was obviously annoyed but remained polite as they got us to our rooms-the girls lifted and brought our bags to our rooms. i paid an extra 50 euros for a single king room with a river view room-totally overpriced hotel!! the room was in old decor-navy and yellow as they all are, small and low ceiling. my colleague was in the same room but no view, still a small room. no free wiifii, restaurant was rustic and mediocre, breakfast was in the same restaurant, and i waited for hot food-standing there and no one came to fill the food up, so i just had pastries and jam. the foyer whcih is copmpletely open to the atrium style room also has a bar with lounges in it-a very nice room but one night they had a piano playing which we thpught would be great(they make very nice cocktails) but the young boy playing it was playing upbeat american jazz(which was totally inappropriate to the crowd and the mood in the room) and he thought he could sing-he was doing jazz renditions of rhianna songs, so bad. best thing about this place was the location-beautiful view even though the windows were little and could only be opened by staff with a lock) it was located a short lovely stroll to shopping and restaurants, you will need a map-its so easy to get lost in ghent-tiny streets that all look the same!

Room Tip: get a room with river view. gets a bit loud at night though as theres people right outside rooms
