Owner description: This municipal tower was a symbol of the city's autonomy, begun in 1313 and completed in 1380.

There are great views over the centre of the city to be had from the viewing areas just below the clock face.

The museum inside the tower isn't particularly interesting, but there was a relatively entertaining film about how they made the bells.

The Belfry has a very sensible system with a lift you can get to the top then work your way down. We'd been climbing medieval steps for nearly 4 weeks, so our feet were very grateful. An impressive tower with good displays and fabulous views. We were visiting with a friend who lives in the city but had never been to the Belfry before. He was able to point out landmarks for us which was an added bonus.
It's very narrow at the top on on the steps down, so take care as it's nearly impossible to pass anyone.

Visited as part of the 48 hour city pass which allows access to all museums etc for two days. The cloth hall alone is worth a visit and really makes you understand the money in the city in the past. My wifes a bit phobic of the small stairs so we used the lift to each floor and return. The whole experience is brilliant and at the top you get fantastic views of the city from all four sides. Well worth a visit.

the visit includes not only the balcony up high but a tour through the history of the place : the building of the tower, the bell and the dragon.
