Owner description: Vooruit is a vibrant live performing arts center located in a 100 years old monument in the heart of Ghent. Since 1982, we have been offering countless cultural events like concerts, podium performances, parties, book presentations, debates... Vooruit is a significant meeting place for a very diverse public. Contributing to this is our popular Cafe with patio, where anyone can come enjoy a (vegetarian) meal or drink, meet for a chat, or catch up on some work.

A cinema, a library and a theatre. That’s how we know Vooruit today. People can go there for a night out or just to relax. Vooruit also offers a bar and a restaurant where people can come together.
I only went once to Vooruit. In 2012 I went to see a band playing in one of Vooruit’s beautiful rooms. The organization was really good. People were able to order the tickets online and if they did order only they didn’t have to wait in a waiting queue because they could go inside immediately at the time that was on the tickets. Before the band started performing, I had a drink in the bar which made the waiting go faster.
I went to see the band ‘School is Cool’. It was the first time I saw the band live and it was an experience which I’ll never forget. The room the band was performing in was small but I liked it that way because it made the act more personal. Good choice of Vooruit! After the concert people could have another drink in Vooruit and stay to have a talk with one another about the performance of the band.
Vooruit also offers a lot of theatre performances but since I’m not that interested in theatre I never went to see one. If Vooruit would come up with a name of a band I really like, I’d definitely order tickets.
I really believe that Vooruit in Ghent is still a growing business.

The atmosphere in the huge cafeteria is very special. And you can feel the spirit; there is history in the air. It is a very warm atmosphere. The new terrace next to the building is great !!! If the weather is fine, you have sun, the colorful chairs add to the atmosphere. But take care for your knees, you might harm them because of structures under the table, but this is a minor issue. :-)

Vooruit is the place to be in Ghent. It's Ghents most famous cultural spot, where you can enjoy good food made by the best chef with local ingredients, art, concerts, dance events and there's even place for performances, theathre and much more. The building itself is amazing..The bar sometimes reminds me of bars in Paris. De vooruit is not to be missed whenever you visit Ghent.

Built by architect Ferdinand Dierckens around 1914 this former hall for culturel events has a theatre, cinema and other public rooms. Nowadays a cultural center again you can visit the whole building guided by two lanes on the floor from the artists wardrobes in the basement to the roof. Ground floor houses a snack bar (restaurant) but I went instead to the t'Hoeske.

Without any doubt the most important player of the Ghent cultural scene. Nearly every day there's dance, theatre or music on display. And besides of that, the bar is large and a nice setting to spot the creative people of Ghent. Very special is the Café Dansant on sunday afternoon where the older part of the town gatters to dance on popular music.
The 2013 program is not to be missed as it celebrates 100 years of Vooruit.
