“my favourite resto in Ghent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food for a ridiculous price,... I always feel on vacation in El Negocito :) love it! You must try the Albondigas and Pan y pebre as a starter and you can't make a wrong choice for the main dish. They also have the best Rums in the world and great wines. A must!

“Bohemian lifestyle!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2011

This place is a true gem for anyone looking for a place with soul, passion and ridiculous prices! The place's overal charm is made partly because of the state of the building (a bit worn down but In a good way), the music they play (Manu chao, Orishas, the chef's voice singing along) and the cheap food. Best thing to do is to order some pisco sours or 'Chilean beer', then ask for all the small dishes (+- 3 euro's each) and enjoy as if you would eat tapa's. Very nice portions. Sometimes there's good quality (free)jazz.

“A must for anyone on a budget!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2011

The place is a small cafe that looks as if there has been a bombing recently. So, a place to avoid if your into luxury. It is led by a Chilean refugee and the atmosphere is very low-profile/bohemian. The music is a mixture of latino-rock (say Manu Chao and the likes) and jazz. And the food is delicious and ridiculously cheap! All plates vary from 7 to 10 euros! When you take place you immediately get bread with a superb dipsauce, made of onion, garlic and pepper. For free. The housewine is good and cheap too. But you must surely try the Pisco, which is a rhum-like liquor from Chili. Especially the Pisco Sour (with lemonjuice, sugar and whipped eggwhite) is too die for (but be careful, after 3 of these you won't even know your name anymore). You can make a choice between fish and meat. I have been there severel times when I lived there and the food always was delicious. On friday or saturday evenings there are little jazzconcerts. At these times the place can be overcrowded. But it is certainly the place to be when in Gent!

“The food, staff, and prices are wonderfully balanced by the "under construction" atmosphere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2011

We almost turned around and left after seeing the state of the place--a cross between construction site and accidental explosion. So glad that we stayed to give it a try! The Cevice and Gambas pili pili were absolutely delicious starters and large portions for a low price. We were planning to leave after a drink and a snack, but the first course was so good we had to order more. All the while we were listening to some great music (with vocals added by the owner/chef). The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We will be back!

“the place seems to fall...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2008

the place seems to fall apart but the food is excellent and ridiculously cheap. Tuna or Baracuda for €9.00. Great ceviche ! good housewine. They alsoo very good tapas like sardines, bread with guacamole, huge gambas etc... Becomes a lively bar at night, often with live music.
