Had the most lovely meal here, the food was very special and also healthy, lovely to have a really posh meal and not feel bloated or have to starve afterwards. Belgium has best food ever forget France!

We were six fellows dining after a scientific meeting; it was the evening of an exceptionally summery day in late May. Under the decaying sunshine, the restaurant's interior turned deeper shades of sea green as we set out for dinner.
Actually, we were the only diners in the place, which is always a bit sad. This is a fish specialty restaurant, and we ordered the menu, consisting of grey shrimp for starters and a main course of cod. Nowadays these are luxury items, but your reviewer's taste was formed in the 1970s when cod was abundant and very ordinary, so he has trouble getting extremely excited over it.
The preparation of the shrimp and fish was flawless, except that to this reviewers' preferences the cod could have done with one minute longer cooking; it was elegantly undercooked in the way that is favored now and maybe brings out some texture that otherwise would be lost in the flakiness; but still undercooked for me.
The most memorable part of the meal was the dessert: they really got it right making the caramelized banana parts; these came with assorted ice cream. Before the meal, we had had Kir Royal cocktails, with a slightly overgenerous helping of crème de cassis turning the champagne foam a deep pink; with the meal, Pouilly-fumé; and coffee after.
Service was a little stilted and a drop of champagne got spilled. The staff are friendly and communicate easily in English. The decor is also very well suited for couples dining out. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but it comes highly recommended for offering consistent quality, as your reviewer can tell from earlier occasions.

This is the best fish and seafood restaurant in Ghent and an excellent one by the standards of any city. If they have lobster from the Westerschelde (seasonal) on offer, don't hesitate and go for it !. One of the great assets of this place is that the lady who welcomes you has an impeccable taste in wine and can always recommend the perfect ones, white but also red, to go with your fish. The decoration is tasteful. There's a lot of space between the tables. advantage: good for people who want a quiet talk. disadvantage: perhaps becaiuse it is not cheap, the place is often half empty. and I like noisy, sunny restaurants. But the food is superb.

...which are worth every euro. Marvellously inventive dishes that are oh so flavoursome and enjoyable whilst not ruining or masking the quality of the fantastic fish used. Excellent service, beautiful homemade bread, fun decor and surely the most sophisticated, but friendly, place in gent for classy, but cosy, cuisine. A treat in Patershol - which is itself a wonderful area. Thank you/dank u wel to all involved - a true delight and I'm now a halibut convert.
