If you have seen the Band of Brothers TV series , go and see this, the film directors did not get too wrong, however the museum tells the reality of it all, and what those guys went through.

Visited as part of a battlefield tour reviewing the actions of the Battle of the Bulge. This excellent museum is located not far from Place McAuliffe in the lovely city of Bastogne, which of course made the 101st Airborne's huge reputation when they were part of the battle group defending the town in December 1944 after its complete encirclement. This tells the story of the division really with exhibits on their participation in D-Day, Operation Market Garden and of course the defence of Bastogne. The museum has a number of dioramas which are a little old-fashioned but convey the right look and feel of what it would have been like to be have been a partrooper in 1944/45. The many photographs are excellent though and are surely the best part of this collection. Overall, very good and well worth visiting.

This wonderful old building began like as a Belgian Officers Mess in 1936. It was used by German occupiers during the war and is now the 101st Airborne Division Museum. The main floor and two more floors above feature equipment, weapons, descriptions of the Battle of the Bulge with exceedingly realistic life-size dioramas. in the basement you can experience an air raid by German bombers and get an idea of the frightening ordeal the citizens of Bastogne went through in their cellars. Very noisy and realistic. museum admission is €8 (euros). Always check on close days...most european museums are NOT open on Mondays.

One of the best artifact collections I’ve seen at a museum. Very well put together. The bomb room was truly amazing!

So glad we visited this place. A warren of different rooms full of interest! We even sat through a bombing in the basement, very realistic, loud and scary with the lightbulb moving during the rumbling. Came out of there feeling very thoughtful. The staff are very friendly and helpful.. even bought a t shirt!
