My fiancé and I drove into Bastogne one night in early January 2011. After walking around the main square looking for a place to stay, we settled on Hotel Leo because of the deal we got, since it was the low season. Luckily they had a room open and we got a room on the bottom floor, which was the handicapped accessible room. There are only 7 rooms in the hotel, and the owner checked us in on a handwritten calendar of rooms – no elaborate computer system! The location of the hotel is very very good, right on the main square and across the street from the tourist bureau. The breakfast is standard, nothing special, but included in the rate. There was free wifi internet in the lobby.

Something odd is that at check-in, they told us to keep our door open when we left…we later found out that that is because the fire escape is through our room!!! Luckily no one needed to use it, but that’s an odd request. I think that’s something some TripAdivsor raters would freak out about and downgrade a hotel for, but what do you expect in a hotel built many many decades ago?? All in all, this is a charming and friendly hotel with a great location: a solid 4-star. I would definitely recommend Hotel Leo for a night or two!!! It’s a great jumping off point to explore the museums of Bastogne and the Ardennes.

Great hotel, hidden in the corner. Brand new, good sized room. Breakfast didn't look much, was actually very good indeed. Lots to chosen from - even champagne. Make sure you get a room at the back, as the square is very noisy. On a hot night you cannot open the windows because of the noise. Great staff and the restaurant downstairs is probably the best in the town.

We stayed for two nights in Hotel Leo and found it 'just the job' for our two nights / three days exploring some of the sites of the 'Ardennes Offensive' sites. (yawn from my wife at this point). As others have said, the initial impression is unremarkable Hotel Leo (1) - there is a (2) also - has a very narrow 'high street' position and you walk staright into the reception / breakfast room. CCTV picks you up and in our case after a couple of minutes the reception 'phone rang and it was someone from the Wagon Leo restaurant who then came and checked us in. Pleasant enough but testing for our schoolboy french and franglais! - oh and they took full payment on check-in. I didn't have a problem with that, maybe the separate location is why. Parking in the square free from 17.30 to 09.00 and in a close and secure side street, free all the time.

Room was absolutely fine. Spacious with a great view of the Place Mc Auliffe and the afternoon sun flooded in. Very clean indeed, no fluff, no mould, no discoloured plastics. Simple but welcoming. We were in room 4 on the second floor and we had no problem walking up and down the stairs with a couple of holdalls. I guess if you needed help with more luggage you would only have to ask. The chap who showed us to the room immediately offered to take my wife's bag. Lift / elevator of course there isn't but 'caveat emptor' - if you need a lift, help or special facilities in a small basic hotel - perhaps ask when booking?

Breakfast ok and of typical European style - completely unattended by any staff and totally d.i.y. ps the spring on the toaster is strong and on the command of 'pull' my slice rose clay pigeon like, turned a double somersault and then disappeared down the narrow gap at the back of the counter. Sorry if you read this Hotel Leo - it's still there.

We ate both nights at the atmospheric Wagon Leo two doors down and ate in the 'railway carriage' beautifully burnished wood and brass and pleasant and polite service once more. Moules et frites, steak et frites, fresh fish (where's the sea though?) local Ardennes boar, ham etc. Including an end of day beer, a 20€ wine and three course, we paid approx €80. Not 'cheap' but then again we were only there for two nights and McDonalds or a pizzeria it isn't. Eat there for a week and you would be fighting your own Battle of the Bulge.

The square became noisy when the bars turned out at 01.00 - 02.00 so close the windows and use the a/c.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Leo and Wagon Leo to any of my 'Band of Brothers' that follow :¬)

This is a very small hotel, only 8 rooms or so, overlooking the town square of Bastogne. It seems like a side-business to the restaurant next door so if no-one is at reception that's where you'll find them. The staff are very polite and friendly. It has no lift, but is only three floors high. Our room actually overlooked the square via two very big opening windows - a beautiful view. The cost for one night was 80 euros or so - Bastogne is not a cheap town so this was fine. Breakfast was good, cold meats and cheeses with champagne as well. Room had aircon. No negatives to speak of. Please note this is for the Hotel Leo 1, on the town square, there is a Hotel Leo 2 on the other side of the restaurant. There is plenty of free parking in the town. Recommended.

the hotel is just across from the McAuliffe square. it's small, only six rooms and the breakfast area/lobby is on the ground floor. we had to go to the Leo restaurant to find somebody to check us in as the hotel front door was closed. the breakfast was very good. the parking in the square is free from 5pm to 9 am. overall a good experience.

This is a small hotel with I believe just 8 rooms, but it is wonderful. We had booked because it was on the Place de la MaAuliffe and the price was right. Because of stops along the way, we arrived late, and at first drove past it. After parking in the square, we saw it looking so tiny, and I had some concerns. What if we had booked the wrong place? When we got into the lobby which is about 8 feet square, we found a bell to ring for service, and my fears went away. The tables in the lobby were already set up for breakfast the next morning and the wicker furniture in the loby was simple, but everything was immaculately clean. A young man arrived from the restaurant next door to check us in. Our room was on the ground floor directly behind the lobby, and our friends were on the next floor up. There is no lift so don't bring heavy bags unless you can carry them,. Our room was huge with a queen size bed, simply furnished with a dresser, chair and a table. The bathroom was gigantic with a walk-in shower, and plenty of clean towels. We had asked if we might get into the restaurant when we checked in and were told it was full, but if we waited about twenty minutes, he would see what he could do. (See the review of Wagon Leo Restaurant). The beds were very comfortable and there were individual temperature controls for the heat if it was required. We had no view but it was night and we didn't require one. However in twenty minutes we were waiting for our friends. After some time we went upstairs to find them and the were hanging out the window. They had a room equally large facing the square with all the lights, tank and people and could hardly tear themselves away from the view.
Breakfast was in the lobby the next morning and was a lovely buffet of rolls, pastries, bread, meat and cheese, cereal and milk, yoghurt , coffee, tea. I can't remember if there was fruit as well . In addition the bakery was directly across th street, so my husband went there after we finished breakfast and got some tarts and pastries to take with us in the car. It is a wonderful place to stay and we would recommend it highly!
