You wouldn't guess from the outside, but the Abbey vaults house a terrific museum dedicated to the Spa-Francorchamps race circuit and the cars that made it famous.

There's a bit over everything down there and the dimly lit archways make for a fantastic atmosphere, even if you're not that into your cars.

It's well worth a visit if you're in the area; not many people know its there and even fewer actually go.

Thank Greg M

Smashing range of things to see - I went for the museum of the circuit in the basement, which has many beautiful cars and motorbikes - but was beginning to look a bit faded - with biographies of now dead drivers talking about how they "still love to race!" - that said, it's a fascinating building, with a very well done view of the history and archaeology of the Abbey (and local area) - well worth a visit.

Visited Stavelot especially to see the F1 museum. The museum was Ok but had very little to see. Mainly sports racing cars/ motorcycles but only one old F1 car, Jim Clarks Lotus. Plenty of info on Spa race course. With your entry fee you get to see the rest of the Abbey which was Ok.

Spa motor museum really good, History presentation good with IT system for translation. We went as the press conference was on for the opening day with a photo exhibition. The cafe was closed for the morning but eventually reopened for lunch.

We spent almost a full day here. There is something for everyone as there are three separate museums, one historical telling the story of the Abbey (very well presented - you need the audio guide), one related to the nearby Spa Francorchamps circuit and one related to poetry (not our thing but others might well find this great and be bored by the cars!). Well worth a visit. Cafe also very nice (you don't need to pay entrance to access the cafe).
