I visited L'Enoteca on Tuesday evening with 3 work colleagues after a trip to Cologne. The reception was fantastic and menu clearly explained. Food is exceptional and extremely high end. Started with an amuse bouche of beetroot soup with deep earthy flavours followed by carpaccio of beef fillet infused with olive oil and balsamic and shavings of parmesan, a really delicious clean flavour and melt in the mouth irish beef seasoned to perfection. This was followed by a pasta course of aubergine and tomato pasta again extremely well balanced flavours. This was followed by a fillet of irish beef cooked medium rare on a bed of minestrone vegetables and cannellini beans scented with a sage infused sauce, great caramelisation to the fillet and succulent tender meat. Finished off with a catalan mouse and caramel ice cream with caremelised kumquats and citrus grapefruit, I am not normally a pudding person but this was outstanding, rich and light at the same time. We were never rushed and the service could not have been better and the wine list is impressive. Then at the close of the evening came the shock ( I must admit i didn't look at the prices on the menu outside, 4 / 5 courses for 4 people with 4 beers and a decent bottle of red and two bottles of water 153 euro! With the quality I had expected to have paid twice that. Some where I would detour to to have a lunch if I was travelling within 100 miles.
