“Nice place”

Reviewed May 15, 2013

This is at the central of the city, a nice place to visit. Very near to the Palace of Justice. Couldn't go inside due to the shortage of time.

Lots of publicity about this biggest Christmas market in Belgium and it is all phoney. While there are about 100 stalls very few are devoted to Christmas themes. Lots of interesting food and drink stalls and if you are on a Rugby Club trip then it would be a great venue.

Overall this is a major disappointment and does not compare well with the nearby markets in Aachen and Valkenburg.

Liege is an interesting and attractive city but don't go just for the markets.

Nice one hour train ride into Liege's beautiful train station, and then a quick ride on Bus 1 brings you to Place St. Lambert, the location of the Christmas Market. It was also the scene of a terrible tragedy on 12/13/11 and we were there for the remembrance.

The Cristmas Market is quite large, over 200 chalets per the website. There certainly is a plentiful variety of food and drink to be had, but the goods for sale, over all, don't seem to be anything special. Having done a few of the Christmas Markets in Belgium over the last couple of weeks, I would rank Brugge #1 for quaintness and atmosphere and Brussels #1 for overall size, variety, and quality.

Wide and beautiful square with a mix between modern and ancient buildings that surround it. The scene is full of concrete, cement, but it is a square of reasonable beauty anyway.

Place St. Lambert is a busy square situated between the so called new and old parts of Liege. It's big, filled with people going about their business - especially waiting for buses - and has the quite interesting Palais des Princes Eveques. A great place to people watch - but not one of the great squares you can find across Belgium.
