This is a very nice combination of animals and waterfalls. A short drive (1 hour) from San Jose. You can observe toucans very closely here. Staffs here are great! Almost everyone smiles. Pablo was very friendly and he explained to us many knowledge about the toucans. We have learned a lot from him. We really enjoyed the tour here and definitely recommend here!

Great park with lots of animals, insects and birds for kids to see up close. Waterfall hike is also nice and good for kids. Note the hike is most down stairs, so need to be fit to climb stairs. Whole walk around all animal exhibits and waterfalls is only a mile.

The hike along the waterfalls is incredible - although you will need to be Ok with going up and down stairs. We saw a ton of wildlife and took a lot of neat flowers. The zoo is lots of fun too, the animals are well treated (they are mostly rescues) and the guides are very knowledable.

It was great to know this place is a refuge and the animals aren’t being bred in captivity. It’s illegal in Costa Rica like zoos and hunting which I learned here. The cats and toucans were beautiful. The sloths were soo cute I wish it was possible to see them with the cage. The waterfalls were also gorgeous and not too bad to get to. The stairs weren’t a big deal. Definitely recommend and it’s worth going with a tour through the direct place. If you use other unrelated places they kinda rush through it, we actually left a little after it closed because we took our time and learned soo much.
