“Amazing day and amazing value”

The entrance to this museum was free and it was on a little amount to go underground!
There is quite a bit to see on the surface, pit ponies, steam engines and much more. However, the highlight of this attraction is going 140m down and having an exhilarating tour underground. The guide was an ex-miner who gave a great deal of information of mining throughout the centuries. I highly recommend that you visit this attraction.

“Definately Worth A Visit...Excellent Day Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

Went on a family trip 2 adults 2 children age 14 & 7. An excellent and informative day out for all the family. Paul Grace our tour guide for the underground tour was excellent and involved the children all the time. The tour is an absolute must and lasted for over an hour and half, a real eye opener on the life and times of mining going back to Victorian times. The tour is £2.50 each a small price to pay for a great time had by all. Would definitely recommend this attraction.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

A great free day out, both entertaining and educational. Don't put the "glad rags" on as a visit underground is a must. If you decide not to go underground there is still a lot to do on the surface, give yourself at least five hours to have a good look around.

“Educational and fascinating.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

Went as part of a school day out accompanying children with special learning needs. The place is fascinating. A real down to earth chunk of English history that can be experienced on so many different levels. .
Firstly the staff, The guys that show people around are all retired or redundant miners and really know what they are talking about ("Thanks Glasshopper, top man")
The tour down the mine is fantastic. So much to see and smell and touch. It's a very sensory experience and was really enjoyed by our pupils and the accompanying staff.
The place is well worth a visit and here's hoping it stays fit and healthy because I will be returning without my school for another look and a good chat with the staff.
This place is a unique chance to see what those guys did and it needs to stay open so pay it a visit. You won't be disappointed.
Ten out of ten overall.
Thank you.
Daz.
