Owner description: The National Coal Mining Museum for England is a unique place where the history of mining over several centuries is preserved both above and below ground. Meet a miner and descend 140m underground on a unique mine tour.

A most interesting place to visit, a great variety of different exhibitions & things to learn about; something to appeal to all the family members (in our case me, my husband & teenage grandchildren). The trip underground into the old mine was really impressive even to teenagers & the ex-miners who act as guides were very informative & entertaining. I would strongly recommend this attraction both for the entertainment it provided & the education in social history (provided totally painlessly !).

The attraction can get very busy during school holidays, but out grandchildren LOVE it, and it is free. It is well managed and a great museum experience.

I found this fascinating. It was Scarey going down the rattling lift. You get a hard hat with torch on. Then a tour around the mine. Wow!..its creepy knowing you're so deep underground. Is say the tour took an hour or more, so you might want to consider not taking very young kids down, they might get restless and bored, because its just a mine.
Very interesting tour lead my an ex miner. And when they turn the lights out you can see how Scarey it would be to be trapped.

Well worth a visit, whether you have an interest in mines or not.

Excellent.

Not much more to say apart from a first class day, so enjoyable and put across in such a good way that adults and kids enjoyed it.

Great day
