Really great food in a quiet old location in Hasselt. Best park you car in the many public carparks and walk to the restaurant.

“Very good restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2012

't Kleine Genoegen is a fine restaurant in Hasselt. The owner / cook runs the restaurant for 29 years now. The restaurant is in a very old building but is very modern inside. There are some 'a la carte' menu's and some three or four course menu's for people who are in a hurry. The food is excellent. Very creative and very well prepared from course one until desert. We were served by very friendly staff. The place is both suitable for celibrating someting as well as for formal or informal buisiness dinners. We really enjoyed every minute.

“Always worth the visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2012

This restaurant has been around for more than twenty years. It was excellent then, and it still is. The food comes in small portions, but the taste is great; 't Klein Genoegen has never given in to the latest food trends and has stayed loyal to it's own roots, which is excellent French-Belgian cuisine.
The place itself is beautifully decorated, very chic and tranquil, with comfy chairs, nicely decorated tables and perfectly chosen background music.
We had a 5-course diner with several little bites and snacks in between. The main course, succulent veal with marrow, was really good! Another dish, their own interpretation of a Belgian "Bicky Burger", for me was the best dish of the night. It didn't even look like a burger, it was more like a salad, but it was crispy, savoury and fresh at the same time.
I hope 't Klein Genoegen - which means "a little pleasure" - will be around for another twenty years, because this really is a restaurant where I have never had a disapointing meal.

“Heaven in Hasselt”

You have the choice to select a menu or eat à la carte. Both are wonderful but the menu is a cheaper way to get familiar with this restaurant. Yes, it's a rather expensive but really worth it. Vegetarian ? Just let the cook know, he will adapt his menu ... just for you ... Visited the restaurant during hunting season and the suprise menu was all game. I was the only vegetarian in the group but the cook prepared a special menu for me to be able to follow the others. So nice !

“Don't know if I'll be back...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2011

Been here last friday again after discovering this restaurant two years ago and I have to say: things have changed. Good and bad. The first thing that caught my eye was the increase of prices. Not much, still affordable, but it was the first indication that the concept had changed: The level of cuisine went up! So it's normal the prices followed.

But to be honest, I wasn't satisfied with the total price/quality ratio. We had the turbot to start. It was excellently prepared but for €25 it was a really small piece of turbot. I know it's an expensive fish, but this was a joke.
As a second course we had the beef one time and one time the duck. I asked the meat to be baked saignant and got mine a point. Not a huge mistake but if you want to up your kitchen a level you have to get the baking times right! Besides that the garnish was to simpel.
The duck was allright but nothing was exciting enough to pay €30.
The dessert continued in the same line. The flavours were really good but I have never ever seen such a small moelleux, not even in michelinstar restaurants.
All in all we had a nice dinner and it was really delicious, but the value was not ok. So I'm still doubting if I'm ever going to return here...

Few words about the service: it was top notch!

And to finish: the winelist. Not really large winelist but reasonable for the size of the restaurant. The wines we had were good, especially the red one. It was a Somontano, it was meaty, slightly smoked with a medium depth and a good finish. On the negative side: the cheapest wines (under €30) on the list are totally not of a decent quality. I know who imports them in Belgium and I can tell you, this is not restaurant material. So take a wine that costs more than €30 and you'll be ok.
