If you ever have a chance to visit the "Boon experience" while in Hasselt you should absolutely do so, at the back of the shop there is a small seating area with a view on the chocolate preparation hall, here you can taste their coffees accompanied by their chocolats
Super chocolats wich will inspire your taste buds, don't forget to taste their coffees too, especially
the Hasseltse coffee!!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If you fancy good chocolate and good coffee, this really is the best place to visit in Hasselt. A wide selection of chocolate cocktails, but also a lot of single origin coffees, they even have jamaica blue mountain and kopi luwak. You'll have a view on the atelier where chocolatiers are building their creations, in a charming mansion, with friendly helpfull staff (you feel as if you are drinking in a living room).
And of course, with every drink, you'll receive some great chocolates. Really one of those difficult to find places, far away from mediocrity.

Here's a good reason to pass Hasselt or make a detour.
Despite the Tripadvisor classification, Boon is mostly a Café.
A very good chocolatier from Belgium has created a "Chocolate house" here.
They serve coffee, Thee and Chocolate.
And they do this on a very high level.
The coffee - you can choose between coffees from all major coffee regions in the world. And it's pure varieties, so you can really find out which type of coffee is to your taste. And as the extreme coffee experience - you can even order a cup of "Kopi Luwak". Yes - that is the Indonesian coffee where the beans have first been eaten, and partly digested, by an animal (a Civet), before they're collected, cleaned and roasted, before they're used to produce one of the worlds most rare and unique coffees.
Thee-bags? - forget it! At Boon they only use real loose thee. Not the thee-dust you would get via a normal thee-bag. Again a very high level selection.
And then you get to the speciality of Boon - the chocolate :-)
("Boon" is Dutch for "bean", in this case chocolate-bean or coffee-bean).
That the chocolate from Boon is famous in Belgium, is saying something about the quality they serve here. You will be hard pressed to chose between the varieties you can get, both pure or as part of warm and cold drinks.
Service is very forthcoming, smiling and friendly. There's absolutely nothing snobbish about the whole place. They obviously love what they do, and they do it very well.
We ordered 4 different coffees/chocolates at our table.
It arrived on two trays, already arranged so that the right drink was placed in front of the right person. No doubts, no questions - just professionalism.
As part of any drink you order you get not only the drink, but also a shot-glass with water (to cleanse your palate), a couple of homemade pralines and a mini-glass with chocolate-mousse. Deeeelicious :-)
Prices are only 2-4€ for most coffee/thee/chocolates, which is well worth it.
At the entrance they've made a glass-partition, so you can follow the "chocolate-kitchen", where they're producing the pralines they're serving/selling at Boon.
At the time of writing (May 2012) the road in front of Boon was under construction, but do not worry - they're still open :-) All it means is that you may not have to wait for a table.
