“Close to the centre of Mons”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

This is a good hotel in the centre of town with its own car park. The twin bedded room that we had was very clean and comfortable, but the windows were high up and you felt like you were in a very comfortable prison! Minor niggles like the taps in the bathroom hard to turn off and there was not a good selection of breakfast cerials to chose from at breakfast time. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and I would say it was a good place to stay

Charming hotel.
Good Points: Superb location, free parking, excellent staff, loved the breakfast, reasonable price.
Bad Point: Double bed was too small.
We stayed here for 6 nights and had a really lovely time. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: I would prefer upstairs as the rooms were cooler there.

I booked direct and received a reasonable discount on the on-line rate through agents. A very acceptable base from which to visit Belgium etc and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a similar location..

We needed a hotel in Mons for our family - husband and I and our two small children - for 10 days. We asked for a suite with a kitchen. I went to check out the hotel before making the reservation since we were in the area, and initially we were shown a regular 1-room suite with a kitchen. When we showed up, they upgraded our room to a 2-bedroom apartment for the same price. We were very pleased with that. However, we encountered some problems during our stay, some of which are the same complaints I've seen other reviewers comment on.
POSITIVES:
-Great location. We loved just walking out of the room, not having to take a stroller, and be in the Grand Place in a minute (toddler-walking time). We loved exploring the center on foot. This is the best part of the hotel.
-Free parking
-Free WiFi but it constantly cut out! So not really a positive.
-Nice and helpful staff

NEGATIVES:
-Breakfast is expensive for not much. Skip the breakfast, you'll save money, and just go out in the morning somewhere.
-Like I said, WiFi always cut out
-Hidden/confusing prices. We were quoted one price and confirmed that price at least 3 times during our stay, then when we went to pay our rate was raised 160Euros because we used a bed for our daughter which was in the room. In the end, when we showed our confirmation emails, they gave us our quoted price but please be careful of hidden charges!
-More hidden charges: we had an apartment with a full kitchen, but no dishes! 100Euros extra to "rent" a couple dishes and pots.
-Not very clean. Dust bunnies everywhere. Just surface cleaning. The cleaning staff didn't come to clean our room everyday, which I didn't mind because I did a better job cleaning up, but dust bunnies were there from the start. I left the room cleaner than we found it.
-Downtown Mons isn't really the most inspiring place to go out with small children. Lots of drunks at all times of the day, lots of beggars, and our entertainment one morning was watching a drunk guy screaming in the street right outside our window and get patted down by police.
-Be careful of stairs. We were lucky to get an elevator but friends of ours with a small baby got a suite on the 2nd floor (3rd American floor) with no elevator and very steep stairs.

We didn't stay in other hotels in downtown Mons, so I can't compare prices or service. However, Mons is definitely a place to see and this hotel wasn't terrible for the price. Just be careful when booking, make sure to watch out for hidden charges.

Room Tip: Depends what you are looking for. Specify if you need elevator access or a room on the ground floor...

I like this hotel because it's so close to the main square. But it has plenty of quirks which you have to live with...

Stayed in one of the "standing" rooms (what they call their executive rooms) and it turned out that it was the same one I had stayed in before. The same issues I encountered previously still existed!!

Good points
- Really high ceilings
- Good sized room with a coach, some chairs and a table
- Tea / Coffee facilities
- Reasonably sized bathroom with bath and shower, sink and wc
- WiFi connectivity and TV in room
- Free parking in the city centre

Bad points
- The shower setup in the bathroom is weird (along the long edge of the bath) which I always find awkward.
- The plug in the sink was the wrong size which again was awkward
- One of the curtains needs a bit of attention due to the end coming off the rail
- WiFi connectivity is intermittent. Sometimes works fine and other times doesn't work.

Overall, the value for money is fine but the main selling point is it's location in the city. For something better, you really have to head closer to Brussels.

I stayed while on business for 2weeks, and other then losing wireless Internet every now and again, the hotel is quite nice. The location right off the city center is great, and the hotel staff is very responsive to any requests or desires while I stayed.

There is a McDonalds as well as many other good restaurants in the center a few blocks away, and hotel parking in a secure lot is a plus!

I will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Get a king bed, larger rooms across from lobby in a different building

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

I stayed at the hotel between 7th & 11th November 2012. My son and I were travelling the regions' sites of the first world war. We were located within a short walk of the main square. The local restaurants were literally on the door step and well worth a visit. Also there was a Carrefour Express two doors away, excellent for the odd bottle of wine and snacks.

We tried the breakfast on our first morning and although very nice (a selection of hot scrambled egg beans and meatballs) to go with the usual continental suspects, found it a little expensive and would have added an extra €104 to our bill for a 4 night stay.

The reception staff were very good with help and local knowledge, so top marks to them. Room was made up each day to a very good and clean standard. Tea/coffee available in room. The shower room was clean and sanitized.

All in all the hotel got top marks for location, car park (vital in a central location), cleanliness, service and value.

Room Tip: Choose a room which over sees the rear car park for a quiet nights sleep. The rooms at the front ove...
